Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Well my hatch is over, it wasn't great but could have been worse.  From 24 eggs set, 10 chicks (worried about 1) we have 3 broodies right now so that is 3 chicks per broody and one to share. lol

No scaleless in this batch, I egtopsy my non hatchers and lost several very dark fm birds and none of the green eggs hatched.

I also agree that it could be worse.
Can you please explain to me what does the egtopsy means 'cause I can't find that in google translate and don't understand your post completly? :)

Sorry, yes a lot of that post wouldn't translate well.

Scaleless is a naked chick without any feathers.

fm is a black skinned bird

egtopsy is opening the unhatched egg to look at the chick and see how far the chick lived and I can see what the chick was going to look like, for instance whether it was fm, scaleless, or fluff color, etc... I candle the egg first to make sure it isn't liquid before I open though!!!!

Opening one once is enough that you never forget that step ................................... again!

Actually, in my experience at least, there's rarely been any odor at all. I egtopsy (love that word) every egg that doesn't hatch and I've yet to have one that stank when I opened it.

I've never had a smell w/ eggs that have chicks in them, but my oh my I have that have liquid in them.
