They are a little scared of me so the pics are not great. Also the rooster is territorial.

Yes the white patch on the back is real not just lighting / camera flash. Not sure what is going on, but maybe a mottled / barred like Qtip????

It takes a lot in the smell / sight line to gag me, w/ my job I have been desensitized.

I'm thinking it is caused by mottling also. However if it turns out to be a stable pattern as in a pied pattern, it would become hugely interesting genetically as there are no truly pied chickens as in cats, dogs, cows etc.

btw- there's a breed on other side of the pond that iirc, are barred+mottling called Fifty five flowerys. Nice name I think.

Very nice birds- I like the heavier dual purpose type. The hen appears maybe a little heavier in weight than the typical hen from hatchery stock here.

Actually, the hen is the smallest one in the flock. She is also lowest in the pecking order, but she is still pretty big :)

As soon as the incubator gets up to temp, I'm
Going to put on a batch of 37 eggs from my NN's. these are all from my Orange Barred NN and from all my NN hens except one. I had her separated for something else but decided not to hatch from that so looks like most if the hens are represented.

I'm hoping all turn out naked necked not sure if all my NN are double carriers or not. I think that Orange Barred rooster is he only had a few feathers in his neck. The hens I don't think are. So we'll see.

Should be good, if he is single combed.  Gets tricky if he has a pea.. some pea combs look pure NN when not.

Oh yes he's single combed. I hatch one out of tge last batch that didn't turn out NZn but there is a chance that I mixed the egg up.

So I'm waiting for this batch to hatch and see.

Possession is 9/10ths of the law, right? Since they wandered into your yard, you have new chickens?

A couple of photos of my project chicks. Sorry they are not photogenic at this point. They are a black copper marans x wheaten marans/EE project to produce Turkens that lay dark brown eggs. In the middle photo they are 8 days old and love their roost already.
