Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I had some Partridge Naked Necks. I still have one but it is kinda hard to see the partridge now she's also mottled: here she is:

I have her in with this rooster:

Not sure you can see it but he has some mottling on his wings at the shoulder. He is descended from my stock so I feel he may be carrying the blood of this hen so I'm putting them together and see what I come up with come about September.

Very nice! I can't wait to see what the offspring look like.

I just weighed my NNs today...all except one cockerel that flat out refuses to be touched, let alone handled. They're 24 weeks old now. My biggest pullet weighed in at 5.4 lbs with most of them weighing in around 4 - 4.5 lbs, and my biggest cockerel came in at 7 pounds, though I expect the "don't touch me!" cockerel is a bit heavier than that. I'm thrilled! Once my three White Rock pullets reach sexual maturity and start laying decent sized eggs I plan to breed them to my NN boys. Based on what I'm feeling right now I hope to get some nice meaty birds out of it.

White Rocks=cool crosses. Hoping for the meat birds for you from those matings. I've actually thought about doing that cross myself, but decided not too since I'm going to work on the Aloha Calico Naked Necks.

Actually, I got them from our local Tractor Supply Company, who, much to my surprise, bought them from a local breeder. Apparently they like to work with area breeders as much as possible for utility birds they sell during "Chick Days" in order to avoid shipping stress and increase the quality of their stock. My WRs growth rates have been really impressive. I've kept them my Bielefelders, which are 4 weeks older than the WRs, because they were larger than the Biel girls and almost as large as some of the cockerels when I introduced them. Their inclusion into the flock went surprisingly smoothly.

Draye, that hen has beautiful coloring, I think that was very hard to achive. I hope you will get more chickens that look like that!

Your plans, DesertChic are great! That should be a great cross. Btw, I have to ask you how long are you in chickens, if I remember it's not so long, am I right?

I've had the WR from Cackle before. I think they are a bit on the smaller side. Mt hens were average 5 to 5.5 pounds. I'm not really sure ehat the standard calls for but that seems a lithe small for a Plymouth Rock. They mere pretty good layers though. Other folks don't get me working I still think Cackle Hatchery have the best birds just wasn't impressed with the WR I had. They may have upgraded them since I owned them.

Now I have heard that the WR from Hoovers Hatchery are closer to what a Plymouth Rock should be. Now mind you this is hear say I've never had any from them.
