Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I see that many people want to cross NN to get bigger birds. my NN is 4 months old and she has already been my biggest bird. the other 3 are about 2 mo and already bigger than my 4 mo araucana.I wander if NN in US are smaller than european.

I'm not sure....but all of my NNs are big birds...my biggest birds, actually. My pullets all weighed in at over 4 lbs at 23 weeks, and my cockerels were all over 7 lbs by that age. I just like really big birds...especially from my meat breed.

my NN pullet is about 18 weeks old and her weight is about 3 kg - 6.61387 lb! the other 3 are about 9-10 weeks old and about 3 lb!

about cross breeds: I have got 2 silkie crosses with 1 5 toes foot and another one 4 toes, lol. I plan to cross NN pullet with ameraucana cockerel next year - am I going to get a NN with muffs?

Maybe, maybe not.

The NN gene can prevent muffs from occurring, but with only one copy it's more likely that muffs/beards can occur, but no guarantee. If you breed a muffed/bearded(single dose Nn) back to a NN after that it will most likely inhibit the muffs/beard.

The showgirl/NN silkie thread talks about this quite a bit.

thank you.

that is the the only way I can find out if my NN are pure. I wonder that because of their XL size. as I like unusual things I would like to have a NN easter eggers.

It's possible!

Today I had to go out to someone's place to assist with their alpacas. I noticed they had chickens and the woman got excited and had to show me her new, strange chicken crosses. In her barn she had a stall with "chirkeys" in it - her words, not mine. She said she bought them from someone as a cross between chickens and turkeys, I didn't have the heart to tell her she was ripped off and they are Naked Neck Chickens without a drop of turkey dna running in their veins.

I saw someone on craigs list who was advertising NNs that way. I couldn't let it go. I wrote to the person and explained to them that they were not part turkeys. Not sure how they took the news,

You are tempting me to try also attempt to and add muffs to my cresteds... and by default I suppose making them green eggers...
All the crazy mutations in one pretty silver laced package. Gonna loose my mind trying the rest anyway I suspect.

Might as well!
