some people who live near me have a broody but don't want more chicks. I yesterday gave them 11 eggs, 7 Nn pullet/araucana cockerel, 3 bcm and 3 araucana pullets/bcm cockerel.

@Kev will I be able to recognize true bcm from the crosses? these are the araucana pullets

if bc is dominant and the girls are black and blue should all the chicks look like bcm? will they have different combs at least?

Yeah- check for beards, rumpless, pea combs, blue feather color, blue legs(when older).

Sorry about the loss...

You should recognize them. Your olive eggers will have beards and maybe even different combs, maybe some will be rumpless.

Sorry for the loss. What was she silkie croosses with what?

thank you. she was a silky hen/rumpless araucana roo cross.

1 araucana pullet is clear faced so my olive eggers might be different than the american OE. rumpless/short tails is a possibility.

thank you.

is there any chance to get blue chicks from this cross? or there might be a few blue feathers only?

Probably no solid blues, but there will be a lot of blue patterned in the cross. Something like blue copper pattern, chicks starting out blue but get some colored details to varying degrees as they grow up. Blue is dominant so every time you breed a blue-something there will always be a bunch of blue chicks.

by the way.. a blue chicken has only one dose of blue gene.. for example.. a blue copper bred with a bcm will give you half blue coppers, half bcm.

Your blue hens will give half blue, half 'black' chicks for this reason.

Okay brace yourselves I have babies so there will be pics!

These 3 have the most distinct chipmunk markings of all the chicks, and prominent dots on the heads. Two are feathered and one nn

One of these the one on the lt was one of the icu chicks, you can see she still has a leg problem but she get around really well so hoping it will get stronger w/ use. She spent 1.5 days in the cup w/ the hobble and shoes.

These two are the darkest fm in the group the nn was an icu chick, I think she will be birchen, the little feathered on is very dark but a white goatee and butt, not sure how she'll feather out, maybe mottled????

Both of these ladies are icu chicks. Blondie the little scaleless, was so light colored at hatch and all the rest so dark I was calling her blondie, so even though she has darkened she has "blonde roots" lol. Me Too is grey, the lightest one in the hatch this time, and so obviously different colored, looking forward to seeing her feather out.

Both these two ladies are NN and pea combed feather patterned, you can see the bare patches showing through the fluff. Beautimous is the one w/ the darker head, just look at those elegant necks what's not to love!

Those that were chipmunks with dots on the maybe turn out like one of mine. Barred Partridge, you can still see the partridge coloring if you catch her and looked close.
