I am new to Naked Necks. Just purchased 3 young birds at an auction. I was using the facilities and my husband bid on them while I was out of the arena. He knew I like them, and wanted a few bantam buddies for my little bantam Cochin pullet.
I'm glad to see there are so many Naked Neck lovers here, as I don't know much about them and already have questions.
I believe 2 of them are crossed with Silkies because they have 5 toes and pretty turquoise earlobes. Not exactly Silkie feathers, more straight with a bit of extra fluff. One of them does not have a naked neck, but I don't care. The box they were in just said "Bantam Naked Neck Cross - Straight Run" and I have no idea who they came from.
I will post pictures in the next few days in hopes that you savvy Naked Neckers can help me clear up what they may be crossed with. Already planning to do some crosses and they aren't even breeding age yet!
Looking forward to chatting about them and reading everyone's post!
Welcome!
They are probably silkie crosses and the one that isn't naked neck doesn't even carry that gene. So if you breed him/her with other non- naked neck birds you can't get another naked neck.
And if you don't know- straight run means that birds that you got are not sexed, so they might turn up being males or females.
