Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I'm kind of excited by this little girl...a buff pure NN named Sherbert (pictured here with her sisters). She still has some silver in her tail feathers, and her shanks are rather green, but look at that neck!!! From the time she hatched she's only had a single feather sprig on only one side of her neck and zero feathers on the other. I still have hopes of one day showing a few birds that follow SOP, and while I'd originally decided on making some whites, I may have to consider buff.

That silver tail is beautiful. I'd love to have done like that. What are your plans for her? Breeding? What rooster? I'm getting around to finding out if I'd like to do some egg trading, if you up for it. As far as buff goes for showing SOP, I think that it is supposed to be the Buff color of the Orpington or Buff Rock.

one of my young Nn's laid her first egg

they were born in april.

I found it in their run. although both of them have been sitting in the nest for a while she preferred to lay it outside.

Congratulations! That's always such a happy time. Several of my pullets have just started laying and it's fun to watch how they react to the changes. One likes to run over and get me, taking me to where she laid the egg, before she starts singing.

Honestly, I still have to work through my plans. I've been watching her casually but finally took a good hard look at her since it's time to integrate her into the rest of the flock. I hadn't considered working on buff before now. I just enjoyed the color.

Here is my 11week old Silver Partridge pullet. Her daddy is my Cinnamon NN rooster and her mama was one of three Partridge NN hens I have ( three full sisters).

This one here I thought was going to be a Silver Partridge and a pullet. Wrong on the color, it's looking more like a Columbian. Also, it's beginning to look like a cockerel.
Parentage is my Golden Partridge NN rooster and haven't quite figured out his mama. I had in with this rooster 2 Black Gold ( Black Copper) NN hens, a Blue Red NN hen a Red NN hen and a White NN hen. I don't think the White is mama as she is dominant white. The Blue Red has only produced Birchen and Blue Birchen chicks ( she had always been bred to silver based roosters). I've not seen any color from the red except red chicks and one speckled ( red base). So if my calculations are correct one if the Black Gold NN's is the mana.

@kev0 would this cockerel produce Silver Partridge with the Silver Partridge pullet?

A shot from each side. This is the 3/8 Jersey Giant cockerel, at 19 weeks old. He is black with red coming out I. His wings, so I'm guessing that he'll turn out to be a Red Birchrn like his daddy. A Red Birchen NN that is 1/4 Jersey Giant and a little mixed up other with NN blood. His daddy was a project trying to get bigger birds.
I think that this cockerel is showing his Jersey Hiant heritage.

@Kev Would this rooster produce any White chicks with my White NN hen and pullets?

I've got so many nice looking cockerels that I'm going to have to make some hard decisions on who to keep and who'll go by next spring.

I'm also posting a few pictures on the Mottled NN thread and Green Egger anN thread if y'all want to check out those threads.

it has been pleasure for my eyes to wake up and see these gorgeous chickens!

the columbian one looks like girl to me. the saddle feathers are wide and not pointy (if I see well).

it should rain soon, after 3+ months. it seems there is no oxygen in the air. I hope my chickens will survive. some of them are really struggling.

a few of my chickens have ILT, aniela (white NN) included. I am broken because there is no point of keeping her alive as this is the 2nd time she has got ILT in 6 months. my little choco has a huge hole on her neck. I guess the roo pecked her when trying to mate and the others saw blood and continued. I have her free roaming on my porch and wherever she feels like. I found a small egg this morning!

So sorry about all your troubles. Maybe you'll get relief some with the rain coming in. Hopefully they will improve. If there is any blu-cote available there that should deter pecking from any of the rest of the flock.

Poor things! I sure hope circumstances improve for you quickly.
