Naked Neck/Turken Thread

No, I don't know because I haven't weighed him. He's not full grown yet as he will only be 5 month's old on November 2nd. He's already a big boy though! He's taller than the bottom bar of the horse panel there in the picture.
He is a big boy. Atlas and Lady are about 8 months and they are some of the largest birds I've ever had. Atlas is probably around 8 pounds and Lady can't be far behind even if she's just a sexlink pullet.

Lady and Atlas are getting along great. She's even started to sleep next to him. I really think he's smitten with such a lovely gal.

Although he has gotten horrible frost bite this cold snap. I worry his whole comb will be gone with his wattles by spring. Darn guy loves to dunk his head in the bowls when he drinks

On another note, does anyone know what 1st gen bantam Cornish crossed with bantam naked necks would look like. I want to eventually get a Cornish shaped bird with a naked neck and possibly naked neck feathering to male processing easier. I found a hatchery that sells bantam naked necks and am planning to get some for spring

@JacinLarkwell They do tend to have those longer wattles that with dip into the water when they drink. Is there a way that you could coat his comb and wattles with some vaseline? That could help to somewhat waterproof them a bit, and help hold the heat in more from what I have heard.
Vaseline only works in dry winters. It adds humidity right to the skin, and keeps it pressed there even if it doesn't allow more to pile on. I've debated making him a little hat, but it wouldn't protect his wattles and I think his comb is too sore now for that. It's scanned and starting to heal but that involves some raw parts being exposed. Part if the reason I haven't given him the other pullets yet. Too worried if more blood happens they'll mob him. Just hope it isn't still healing when the next snap happens

The only thing that I 'could' do that makes sense from that is the jelly. Which again doesn't work. I will not add a heat lamp to by areas and he's in the most sheltered part of my barn already. The wider roosting bars makes no sense, and everything else is already done or considered and dropped 🤷‍♀️

It just kinda sucks, and I feel bad for him. Just means that I will try not to keep another male with a large comb and wattles.

Thanks though for the link

How's everyone's flocks going?

Mine's doing ok over here. I had a 4 month old buff NN pullet get herself in a fix yesterday when I went out there to lock up the coop. She was hanging by her foot upside down in the pen. So, I rescued her from that. I checked her foot over good this morning and it seems to be ok. She's actively walking around well without even a limp.
