Naked Neck/Turken Thread

OK folks I'm excited I'm going to my first poultry show on Sunday. It's in CT ;I can't wait. I just booked my ferry reservation to go across the sound . I can't wait

Hello My sister in law and brother in law live in Akien. What a small world this is.
Hi Samantha! I have Naked Neck bantams (they look like Naked Neck Cochins), but the girls are all broody right now.
I'll have eggs available as soon as they are laying again.

Hi folks I'm pretty excited I'm going to my first poultry show this weekend in CT. I've been to a number of state fairs but never something strictly for poultry. I talked to one of the men on the committee for the show and he told me the one I should make sure I go to is the New England expo in Mass. in Jan2014 .He said that year they will be hosting the nationals there.I can't wait.

Are you bringing any birds to show or are you looking to buy? I've been to a couple of small shows. It's very cool to see breeds that you've only ever seen in books before. Have fun and take pictures!

I'm not bring any birds but I will try to remember my camera

Well, I am really upset!

Most of the hatch I had with my showgirls/sizzles are boys :( The one black showgirl/cochin, that I wanted to put with my NN Camo, crowed this morning. There are several others that are always fighting, too.

My daughter has been wanting a frizzle for forever. I ended up with two frizzles from the hatch....they are boys :( The one frizzle fights so much, it had blood spots all over it's face. I am pretty sure I have five maybe six boys out of nine babies total. They are only four weeks old, but are mean already! I wish they could just get a long so I could keep all the roosters :( I know...that is what most people say :) Well, just wanted to rant :) Thank you for listening (reading).

I had the same problem a month ago. Of the 4 out of 6 eggs that hatched for my Buff laced polish. All 4 were roosters. I'm not allowed to have them in my town(although everyone does) All the work ,time and money I put into raising them I had to give them away. Its OK to rant on here occasionally .If I say some thing to my husband about it. His response is "Your a farmer just kill them". Some farmer 6 chickens in the middle of Long Island . I'll act like a farmer when he buys me a farm .

Well, farmer or not.... I can't kill my own chickens...especially if they aren't suffering. So, I guess I will truly never be a farmer

Thanks for responding to my rant

I really love roosters! They are incredibly beautiful! Stinks they have to be the way they are. I know there is a protective reason, but it still stinks!

Illia, that was so sad.

They are good birds. Perhaps try again from a different source and/or have them vaccinated? I would offer eggs, but mine are from very dry and very hot summer area..

Very cute birds, Lisa. Cant wait to see your giants when they are mature.

Josh, those birds are extremely nice!

Southern, I hate chick pictures like yours. They always make me tempted to look at hatchery website to see pricing/availability for 25 turken chicks....

You live in Sun City? I am moving to Morongo Valley and that is very close. I wanted to know about how my birds are going to take the weather change. I am moving from Santa Cruz but up in the mountains where it is much warmer. I am planning on moving them at the begining of summer so the transition is not so harsh. We are in the upper 80's right now and they have not yet experienced 100+ weather yet.
