Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Now my real miracle. After my loss chicks 2 days ago, I had to search around for the hen (fortunately unharmed). About an hour later, I happened on an egg several feet from the 'nest' and stone cold to the touch. Candled, no signs of life.

The incubator was on for my 'consolation attempt', so I placed the egg in. I didn't alter the humidity or alter the turner.

This morning the egg had pipped.A few hours later, and with a little help....membrane dried out, and this is what I have.

Black, yellow bum and wing tips and a bow tie.....but a real live NN. Sorry idf I sound stupid....but I couldn't believe that this little one could come from the cold egg.

Thank you for the kind comments.

It defies what we are led to believe. It was day 21+ when I had the attack. The egg was cold....ambient temperature here low 50's overnight. It shouldn't have hatched, but it has.

I had another experience when the incubator lead was dislodged for between 12 and 24 hours with ambient temp in the low 40's (day 7-8). They were eBay eggs which had travelled 300 miles. I had 5/6 hatch, and all went on to become fine strong adult birds with 4 hens and 1 roo..

On other occasions I have taken great care, everything seemed to have gone exactly as predicted, but nothing hatched.

I think biological systems are here to confound us, so it's always worth a try, no matter if all the odds are stacked against.

What a dynamic thread, besides the genetic information and great looking birds, we have soooo many interesting peeps with unfathomable stories.

PG besides being a source of information and raising great birds, you have a faith that brings miracle chicks. I am not joking ! A real cutie you have there who would be here if you did not warm her up.

This chick hatched yesterday. She was all alone, wet, and cold in the corner. She was nearly dead. My dad said she'd die -- but I wanted to give her a chance. Her name is Teddy. She is perfectly healthy now!
Oh, and she hatched from a brown egg. She is:
Easter Egger (colors & green legs)
Turken (as you can see)
Silkie (feathery legs & 5 toes) VERY unique!!!!

I have a naked neck rooster that I love alot. I keep him outside the coop cause there are 2 older roosters in the adult cage they want to beat the crap outa him. He's still young about 9 months but my dad thinks he's small and he wants to eat my rooster to make a nice rooster & spaghetti dinner out of him...

There's no way my dad will eat my turken rooster.. My rooster is short but he's very stocky body.

Vamvakas......NO.....tell your father that the meat tastes bad.Tell him there's not enough to eat. He will become 'much more of a man' with age.

Chicken Frenzie....another nice story. If chicks are abandoned a short spell in the incubator or beside a stove in a box usually sorts them out.Well done to you for your rescue.

Flower....thank you for your kind words. I think the only reason that I 'rescue' things at times is that I find it hard to accept that they could be dead, and try whatever I can think of to save them. At times it pays off. I guess that the way a broody treats her eggs at times (going back to the wrong nest box, scattering the eggs, leaving them for many hours for no good reason, then the contents must be tougher than we think.

A few pics from today

This is Reba, my only red NN, she has just a couple of feathers on her neck, she is going to make some pretty chickies.

Draye these are mensa, the NN I hatched from your eggs, still thinking girl? She is queen of her world for sure.
