Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Awe congrats AutumnWinds! My first time having them and they are just too sweet! Mine are only a few weeks old. Thank you Nava! Got a NaNa in there too!!

Now..having said that I am just really struggling with what they are though...I know she said she sent me red, blr and 1 splash...I just can't figure out which ones are red and which are blr! O...and not sure why...but I just have this UGH feeling that the majority of them are cockerals!! Here's some pics...opinions please!! O and Nava might be able to just point them right out..dunno! I know they're young yet to be trying to figure sex but so many seem to have more comb, getting red necks and legs are thicker than a couple of the ones I'm guessing are pullets.. One more thing...noticed that in addition to the splash having dark/greenish legs...two of them that look sooo similar 1 has yellow legs and 1 has green legs. So..here goes...O and my always nosy dog Woody!! lol This pic below I was trying to show how eventhough splash it just recently popped out a couple of redish feathers...hmmm?! Pic above and below are 2 chicks that have very similar feathering type however above...yellow legs...below greenish legs.. My beautiful boy Woody! He is such the protector of HIS chickens! I've had family show up one day and he had one of the BCM hens (4mos old..not small) in his mouth carrying her around outside...she was soaked but not a place on her..of course they told him to drop her and he did! I had a dog barreling after me too from the otherside of a tree line while I was carrying a dead chicken that something had dug up overnight and my dog came running from the other side of the house and attacked that dog and ran him off of our property! Big chow mix dog too! Just love him! Baby bunnies...baby chicks .. he licks them to "death"!! LOL

I see what you're saying. So any feedback how I tell blr and red apart, just trying to figure colors@ the moment! Lol

That one with the eyeliner looks like a BLR
The one rhat is NaNa looks to be red
Reds have yellow legs
But is you have time you can pm me or post them pics here of each chick and we can figure it out.

PS, that day I sent your chicks I sent 5 other boxes of chicks so I can't remember what I sent you.

One of my beautiful naked neck and my newest little chick, the mum is a silver grey Dorking it's dad is a barred Naked Neck, something got in and took the other eggs but mum wasn't going to let anything take this little baby, mums doing a wonderful job looking after it
Sorry to hear about you losing your little chicks, I have lost some before and it is distressing, I think a hawk took mine so we put netting on the top of the cage, fingers crossed that this one survives, I put some more NN eggs under a broody hen yesterday so I hope to have some more soon.

Around my place not only is there hawks and cats but also rats snakes and toads and opossums and raccoons and ants and even mosquitos all posing a threat to chicks at one point or another so when we get a important batch we lock them up in a large enclosure till the chicks are well feathered about 4-8 weeks depending on the type
Of chicks and season then we let them free range and have experienced less losses this way some I the enclosures are dirt bottom so it is almost like free ranging at times as they get to dirt bath for the others I put a long planter side ways or a bottom of a planter with dry dirt for them to be able to play and bathe in as always daily usually more we change the water very important and always add feed.

Really like this hen's color.She looks like a naked neck game hen.

Oh ok I thought he wanted to sell chicks. Well it is day 22and no pips in my eggs they are just wiggling do you think they have a chance?

Don't give up.Every hatch from my incubator and my broody hens has been a day off this season.Let us know how it goes.
