What happened? Is it infected? How long ago did this happen? Anything vital injured (trachea, crop, esophagus).

Depending on the answers it needs to be cleaned well, after cleaning I would use a honey (if you have access to raw) or sugar iodine paste and coat the wounds then cover w/ bandaging keep her away from the other chicken in a secure area so she can heal and has access to good food and water.

One of many articles talking about this method, google it if you like, I've seen it work on my own chickens.

Is that the skin pulled back off her neck? Looks like its been a bad day for both of us. I just 30 minutes ago had to kill my favorite silkie for having the skin peeled off his head like that. I'm no vet but couldn't think of any way to heal it up at all, let alone quick enough for him not to suffer..so I ended his suffering. Poor baby.

^ Kassaundra's method sounds worth a shot, though, depending on the extent of the injury.

I use Coconut oil for wounds and find it is awesome. I haven't tried Honey.

If it is just a flesh wound, I can't see any issue with her healing as long as it doesn't get infected.

I've had bigger gashes where the hen did not seem in pain at all. Coconut oil healed her up!

If you keep this wound clean, it should heal with very little scarring. My naked neck was scalped when she was about 8 weeks old by the older girls and by keeping it clean and putting medicine on it, it has healed and you can barely tell that it ever happened. Good Luck.

WOW!! That is bad, I tought it was a little cut but Ay Dios mio!!!

You have to keep the young cockerels away from her, cause they would peck at her neck trying to mount her.

Yes, like Kass said keep it clean, and away from other chickens, they could easily peck her and might even kill her.

separate her immediately and put something on the wound leave her out of the pen until it's completely healed or else the other chickens will peck it open again. one of my chickens had her neck pecked like that, and I put Neosporin on it after cleaning and it healed very quickly. of course this injury looks a lot worse than mine did but same concept good luck I hope she's doing okay

Thanks all for the input. she is separated in the house in a Large dog crate. I put bacitracin on the wound last night after cleaning it.. I am going to apply some more today. If I put the honey on after how do you get it off? to put more bacitracin on. or do you just keep putting the honey on?
