Those are really nice birds. I didnt know you have whites. My chicks are really friendly now. The lighter colored chicks are splash right? All 3 of them are cockrels and 2 others but im keeping all the roosters. Im also getting them a new coop instead of using the one above cause they are getting big. But i am very pleased with them.

Double NN..in that both parents are NN or are you working towards scaleless, as well? Pardon my noobness.
Updated pics of chicks hatched from DDD. Dipsy on the left and Curly on the right.
Don't you love her chicks? Here are two of mine from her!
Oh that's it..I must have some DDD eggs! ;) Wonder how much DH will kill me when he hears I want yet more NNs..lol.

I'm a new NN owner, and my almost 5 month old has almost like dry skin just on the top part of her neck, its been very hot here like in the 100s, they have 100% shaded 10 ft by 20 ft area and of course free range in the sun. Could she have gotten sunburned? They are usually never out in the free range during the hot day, they are always under the tree or in the dirt shaded run. I did put some vasoline on it, and its more like chapped skin. Its not red at all. I use DE in the coops once a week, and they have it in their favorite dust bath hole. They free range, get a mixture of chick starter and flock grower, since she is my oldest, the rest are 2-4 months old. She has access to oyster shell, and they get fresh fruits and vegs, and live meal worms. I choose one of those treats daily. Today with fresh right out of the garden squash. So I hope its not a diet issue. I can't see any bugs either, so I don't think its mites. Its just like white dry skin looking, showed up this morning.

Is this normal? Is it okay to put vasoline on it, she looks much better with the vasoline. She's not scratching or rubbing on it either.

I feel like a horrible mommy, I hope she is going to be okay, please let me now what I can do for her dry skin. I should have taken a photo before I put the vasoline on her neck, because now she looks back to normal.

Thanks

Yes sounds like a sunburn NN's are prone to it mine get sunburned sometimes too. She will be fine dont worry and welcome to the world of NN's.

Should I not let her out of the enclosed run? Its full shaded, but she's the first and always the last to come back up to the shade, she loves to go out and lay in the ivy's. I swear when she starts laying eggs, they will be in there. Is there anything better then vasoline to put on it. I feel awful about it.

If it is sunburn a lotion sun screen would be better then vasoline since that will encourage more burning. My NN's get whiteish sloughing skin from time to time I've never thought anything about it, they don't act like it hurts, there is no rash or injury or inflammation it lasts for a few days and is gone. I wouldn't confine her more I watch my chickens a lot and they seek out shade all the time in summer, their sun exposure consists of the couple of second it takes them to run to the next shade patch. lol
