Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Not sunburn at all, like kev says it must be the rapid growth,

Rob, how's that nn pullet doing?
Hope her neck is better

I'm seriously contemplating sticking with just NNs

That means I gave to find homes for my BLRW AND ENGLISH ORPS

I really like those, but I also want to concentrate on my SQ NNS

UGH!!!!

oh man, ugh........ yeeeehaw! you're the perfect person for bringing back SQ NN in big numbers! LF only or bantams too? what colors?

SQ means show quality. Nava and a few others have been talking about entering NN in Paltry Shows with competition to increase awareness and for fun etc. To be show quality you must raise lots of birds in order to breed to the "Standard of Perfection" which has been developed by poultry breeders over a period of time.

My day started horribly!!! I woke up to 5 chickens and 1 runner duck dead....we think bear! My coop is pretty much impenetrable except for the door. It was always the weakest part. Well, the door was torn down! I am sick. It killed my RIR, the one that ALWAYS laid an egg every day....maybe she would miss a one day in 2 months! My Silkie, my brooder. I am sure she was trying to protect her baby...baby is fine. My Welsummer and my Speckled Sussex, who I had always wanted! And, it got my beautiful Blue Laced Red Wyandotte roo I was just asking you guys about! If I would have sold him yesterday, he would have been alive! It also got my Runner Duck! I think it got the female....bummer! I am sooo sad! One of our renters said she her a ruckus about 4 in the morning. Uggg.....the bear was here the night before, too. Got one of my bird feeders off the deck. So now, I will be on bear alert for sure! I am heart broken about my chickens and duck!
My Naked Necks are ok, thank goodness!

I'm so very sorry for your loss of chickens, I've only lost one this year to a large bird, not sure most likely and Eagle, since we live up in the mountains as well. I'm helping a friend right now replace his flock, he lost 14 to a fox the other day that climbed his 8 foot fence. Hopefully you can get the bear relocated. We have bears up here, and they always come back if they know there is food. We had horrible issues up the street, about 5 blocks away with the black bears going in the trash cans on trash day. They finally relocated the bear. I really hope you don't have any more issues with the bear in the future.

Oh that is horrible, so sorry. A bear!!!!!!!
