Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I am the exactly the same way! I know it is the smart thing to do, but just cant. I only have about 25 chickens and they are all a different breed. They have name tags on the door. How can you eat them after they jump in your lap and come running for treats?

I admit that initially it is very difficult to take a life. Eventually though after several years and having too many males and hens that have stopped laying eggs the task becomes necessary if you need to be practical. Certainly you can give them away or have someone else do the deed. But I look on it as being part of the circle of life. I will post no more on this subject !

Do these count as NN's? LOL

This is my newest adventure and they are my very first turkeys. They are quite comical and very people oriented. They tend to follow me everywhere and as I am chasing the chickens off of the road, the turkeys are chasing me. LOL I bet that is a sight to see.

Just watched "My life as a Turkey" you can download it from YouTube. It is bittersweet.

They're beautiful to boot, NewToFarming! Are you raising them for meat or pet?
I'm trying to convince DH to let me get turkeys.. He already hates my NNs..the weirdo.. :smack
I watched a couple segments of that program on YT. So sweet.

Thank you! I guess pets. LOL I was not planning on getting turkeys at all but this little Amish boy was selling them at TSC and he was just too darn cute! These turkeys are only between 4 to 5 months old. I am am very surprised on how laid back they are and they really love people. They are very curious and what to see everything you are doing. They tried to get in the car with my husband tonight. LOL I never would have thought I would have enjoyed them as much as I do. My husbands favorite chicken is the NN's. Actually Rambo is his overall favorite. Rambo is a rebel! LOL

Lucky! Then again..my DH doesn't care for any chicken (except our mutual favorite showgirl).. I'm on my own with them.

Tried to get more pics today of my oldest, Herman and Winston, the fellas that started my NN addiction. My iPod camera is so crappy, though. Should carry the actual camera around with me..
They're 24 weeks now (5 1/2 months). Still no crowing from either (or eggs LOL).
Herman started out solid black and has developed a lot of gold on his shoulders/wings, and his cap is almost all gold. Pretty guy. He'll probably stick around because of his great personality.

Winston is harder to get pics of. He(?) runs around like he's on fire and doesn't like being touched. This is how he runs - feathers fluffed, cap up lol.
