Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I hope to have a new NN rooster later in the season. A friend needed to rehome her expensive Lemon crele (project) rooster so he is with me just trying out his male voice. Also he is starting to feel his hormones but has been pleasant so far. Besides ordering eggs when available, I'll be hatching every NN egg I find in the boxes. He will add the barred gene to the pool of blue and black birds. Oh dear I am afraid that I have most colors mixed into my flock. ha ha I love it but black IS my favorite.

So many pretty birds here on this thread. Lets run a contest late in fall to vote for our favorite pretty NN ?

Well my rooster finally decided to give me a try today. He waited until I had my back to him and he ran and hit my leg. Mostly felt the impact of the hit and no hurt. Instant reflex kicked in and I gave a new name (not nice and can't say it on here) with a good swift kick. I also told him (yes I talk to my chickens like they are somebody) that I have enough roosters around here and I can still make Naked Necks without him.
lolone of mine tried to do that again today. he got a kick.

Congratulations on the new layer!
Naked Necks can lay any color eggs. The majority of my Naked Necks lay blue / green eggs. The Standard of Perfection calls for brown eggs, but not everyone always breeds to *that* standard. : )
Almost all of my NNs lay rather dark eggs but several lay very light colored eggs...some would call them white but just enough color and the occasional specks to be called a 'brown' egg. I'm certain it's the Australorp influence since most of them lay a very light brown egg and the Leghorn in their genetic makeup is carrying that basket.

Doesn't everyone talk to their chicken-children?
Was he pecking or spurring at you? I'll tolerate a little pecking. I hope it was a single event and doesn't happen again.
I'm so thankful for nice roosters : )
Except for a little frizzle Cochin that was raised by a child as a pet ( and they couldn't keep when it started crowing ), it is a bad-tempered little guy --- and I've raised loads of Cochins. This guy is just an exception to the 'rule'.
