Can't be a hawk cause it was dark..  The thing is he has no cuts or blood that I saw and was able to run/fully alert when I tried to catch him.  It's almost like something walked into the coop and just ripped some feathers off without hurting him, maybe with my quick reactions running outside I saved him before he would of died but there was nothing in sight.  I thought maybe it was a human but the run door was closed not open.

Edit: Made me freak out alittle cause it was so weird and unorthodox.  Had to have a couple of beers after that...

It is possible that it was an owl. Even at dusk, we have plenty of them here!

Never had a mink/weasel problem, but never say never.. I'm tempting to double check if he's not hurt but I don't want to stress him more tonight so I'll wait till tomorrow.

Very few people actually see mink or their cousins, even those who hunt or trap them. As a kid, I was a fur trapper and did pretty well at it. I also 'coon hunted and would tree mink, but rarely. One might see their tracks but you would have to know what you are looking for because of the way they move, it's difficult to track them.

I have no idea what caused your cock bird to freak out but I can tell you as a certainty...there are mink in your area. If you doubt me...google is at your finger tips!

Well today the NN cockerel is not injured at all with no cuts or scratches acting normal. Think it might be an owl that went into coop then scared him cause I didn't see anything in sight that night and owls have bright feathers on there belly so that's what freaked him out I think? Also, dealing with something that's killing my quails from time to time.. There in strong raised cage outside with rabbit cage wire (the small holes) wire flooring and something is ripping there feet/legs off from under. I set a raccoon live trap near the quail cage with one of the dead quail it killed hoping it's big enough to set off trap.

Edit: just caught a possum in the live trap near the quail cage don't think he's the perpetrator looking for a coon so I let the possum go, but man they don't want to get out trap.. I was thinking just to grab the possum with my hands to get it out but good thing I didn't cause I used a thick branch and he bit on it and wouldn't let branch go till I ripped him outa the trap to reset again.

That opossum should have been taken out IMO. I had one wipe out a dozen seramas, they weren't fully grown, in one night. I know maybe not an issue for the adults, but you never know. Plus once you do get chicks, if you haven't already, he/she might come back for a meal. Just saying...

I put 'possums about #2 for chicken killers. A poultry person needs to smite everyone they can. Many people think they are slow stupid carrion eaters and they are part;y right...they love carrion but they will take live prey and are very capable of short bursts of speed and..backed into a corner, they are armed with a very formidable face full of gnashing cutters.

Yet another edit! While coons are without doubt the king of coop killers, (and likely for free range birds too) the 'possum is absolutely #2 in coop killing, followed close by mink, weasels, martins etc.

Vamvakas.....that possum WILL be back and where you find one there are frequently many more. especially this time of year. Momma has her pouch full of babies now and needs all the food she can get to nurse as many as 10 or 12 of what I will concede...are the cutest little hairless things when they finally hair over and come out to ride on moms back.. I had three or four of them as pets when I was a kid. (coons too)...They all ran off when I was in school...according to Dad..I actually believed him for a while and as I look back, I'm surprised he let me keep them the month or two that he did. I know he killed them because both coon and 'possums can be semi-domesticated and would have had to have been caged....no life for a pet...and once they were 'petted', they would always come back, reverted to their wild state and looking for easy meals.
