Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Not sure if different parts of the country prefer NN's then other regions do, but I post a local CL add selling couple red NN fertile eggs and back in the past with other breeds people would call asap after posting a add. But with the NN's no one calls... Feels like you need to wait the next day, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day before someone calls you.

I've sold 1 of the extras so far, that's it. I'm a little bummed that people just don't seem to 'get it'. I even put in the ad that our NN laid as well as our Red Sex Link girls through the winter without light. We sold all of the extra Cinnamon Queens so quickly I actually felt bad and sold 1 of the 3 we were going to keep because I didn't have time to take the ad down and a lady wanted 'just one'. Ironically, she bought the NN too. The EE have sold well too but I expected that.

Just my opinion, but I think some people are afraid of them because they have naked necks. The 'general population' (again, my opinion) thinks they are not really 100% chicken, but some weird hybrid. And then there are those people that just don't enjoy a naked neck on their chicken --- they think it is unpleasant to look at.
More for me : )
I would keep them ALLLLL...

That's so funny that you say that! My husband is always commenting how dinosaur like they look! LOL

Yeah about the same experience out here.

Fairly often occurrence is person not interested in or didn't know I had NN before meeting up for sales of another breed or peafowl but during visit, they end up taking a few, occasionally a person took all available ones. It seems people have to see the birds and their eggs before they change their minds. Some changed their minds after being assured they were weather-hardy and did not need any differences in care from any other chicken.

Strangely, a higher percentage of people who come for peafowl end up buying NN than the ones that came for another chicken breed.....

More than a few simply cannot get beyond their visible necks though. Their loss.

I have found alot of people in my area have never even seen an NN. I have people stopping and asking me what they are. LOL Even some of the chicken people didn't know what they were. Some of the Amish knew but that has been it so far. LOL

Okay everyone, brace yourselves, I have chick pics.
