Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I've got some NN that have the Duckwing in their back ground.
This is the second generation removed, but this is still showing up.

Here's a picture:
400

I have others also.

If you check back a few posts you can see a picture of one if my hens that Kev repost end for me. I've somehow lost the picture, but she found it. She is 1/2 EE and 1/2 NN.

Most all my EE hens had some form of blue one them and a lot of the chicks inherited the blue coloring regardless of the color Roostet bred too.

well, I see...
he is about 4 mo now. I am not an expert but I would say he is duckwing. I understand I will have to wait and see what colours his chicks will be. the breeder I got him from keeps all the colours together. I am hoping for other than red. I have just got a blue, kind of birchen female with some gold on her neck and a few red spots on her wing. she is about 2 mo, might loose those red spots after molting.

Can you take a new picture to show what he looks like now?

What do you mean by hoping for other colors than red- did you want silver series(black/white) or solid black..?

Unfortunately.... if a growing chick shows color, it will keep it for life and normally they get even more of it, especially the boys at full maturity.

it is night here. I will take a pic tomorrow.

I don't have any specific colour in mind, I just don't like boring red. even mahogany is ok, just not usual backyard mutt's red. any unusual pattern is welcome. I find my araucana boy beautiful, but I am afraid that his chicks might be less colourful.
btw, my hen got broody again!

I put 1 her egg (greek hooded hen/red sex link roo), 4 NNs and 6 bcm. keep calm and pray!

Well the baby NN's are now 9 weeks and 4 days old. I have 24 left. They've become big eaters now. I have been feeding around 8 to 10 pounds every thre days. I leave on the fourth day for them to clean up all the fine stuff they tend to leave.

Is this tookuch feed for this age, and the number of birds?

Anyway, today I gave them some crumbled up leftover cornbread. Their first food that wasn't processed feed. They seemed to love it the majority of them were out there picking it up as fast as they could.

Right or wrong, for the first many weeks and for that matter always, I feed them all they want. My birds do have the advantage of getting out and running all over hell's-half-acre and eating plenty of 'found goodies'.

All baby chicks do is eat, poop and sleep. I'd be more concerned if they weren't gulping down the grub and soaking up water.

Was moving this boy to another pen, took the chance to get some pictures. He is hatchery stock from what was supposed to be pullet only order at the feed store. I'm very happy to get a hatchery stock boy though.. especially one that turned out crazy colors like this lol..

Gotcha. I do notice myself getting very bored with too many of a specific color and getting excited when a different one shows up.

is the sex link roo red/white? red sexlinks have dominant white, easy to make crazy patterns with them, breed with red or brown chickens like red duckwing for red pyles.

hopefully the white hens are hiding different genes for colors or patterns... good luck with the hatch!

What would you call the color? If it were mine I'd say multi colored wheaten. Those dark black feathers around the neck makes me think of wheat, this wheaten. Though it may be closer to Columbian. It still has a mottled look to it.

No real name for it but he is wheaten plus silver plus genes that try to make the red darker. The silver is trying to stop the red/gold pigments- "wants to" make him black and white... and the 'pour in more red pigment" genes are battling it out with silver to put in red pigments.

He's kinda the silver version of Fire Ant's Apoc... hope I remember the right name for the particular bird.

If you cross silver with birds that are intense or very dark red, like dark cornish, show RIR(they look almost black to me- so much red pigments being produced) you can sometimes get crazy patterns in white, red, tan, gold and black.

I wonder if someone has crossed silver lace wyandottes with blue laced red wyandottes? That's the same basic idea, bring out the 'fight' between silver and the moremorered genes however on a laced pattern... that has got to throw some crazy patterns.

I have seen silver crossed with dark cornish with the silver birds crossed back to pure dark cornish, many of them had awesome colors and patterns.

Yeah, I think each one individually is lovely (red, black, etc.), but would be bored with just one or the other. That's a bit what's making the cockerel choice tough in my mind.

Here's Apoc - the yellow-downed bird with dark feathering that you have called wheaten.

Bane (the "all black" one with the rose comb who is top cockerel) is now showing small amounts of red highlights along his back (like hints of Neo's pattern, but less red so far). He's going to be gorgeous!!! (He won't sit still long enough for me to get a good photo in the right light.)

I'm just about out of tractor spots, so in the next week or so, I will pick a "permanent" spot for the tractor and put down bedding and a more permanent fenced paddock. Mouse has been the most talented escape artist of the lot. Meanwhile, the New Hampshire boys have figured out that they can fly OVER their 4 foot fence - I need to arrange something different for them (their "coop" is a bit cramped, so I need to be sure to give them good roaming space outside, which they enjoy).

Kev, I have a couple questions for you, but for simplicity, I will put them in a second post.
