Naked Neck/Turken Thread

thank you everyone. the worst of all is that I have only byc to talk about chickens. my family and friends don't even understand why I keep chickens at all. their reaction when I loose a chicken is kind of: so what, never mind, you have others. they don't know that each chicken has a personality.

This is so true! Non-chicken people simply don't get it.

I used to think naked necks were ugly but after I've read about them I really appreciate them they are so amazing! I want to now more about their genetics can y'all help me?

@kev

Do you know if older (3 years) Black Jersey Giant hens have feathers that will turn grayish color on them.

I went a picked up what was supposed to be a BJG, this is one I had breed and was raised by by cousin and when she died my dad got them. Anyway I got her today but she had this grayish colored fees there around her neck near the head. Just curious if I got the right hen or if maybe she wasn't a full BJG. I'm almost positive there weren't any Crossbred one in that batch.

Yeah that kind of attitude is too common. My family and friends don't care about the chickens at all, however I am lucky they still manage to be polite and somewhat supportive. Like they are amused in a good way how much I love the naked chickens, even telling me I should get a tattoo of one so I can go around asking people if they wanna see my "hot naked chick tattoo" lol

I'd like to know about it's history?

The First NN Hatched and History was Changed Forever for the Better.....

I don't know the details on the earliest history- does any one know?

some stories I've come across was chickens brought to Eastern Europe by invaders/migrants from??? and became relatively or perhaps locally common- apparently they existed for a very long time in Hungarian areas like Transylvania, which is why sometimes they are called Transylvanian Naked Neck but it seems naked necks have been around for a very long time in other areas/countries also and can be locally common or well known to the locals because now and then I will come across "(city or county location) Naked Neck" like recently I found out about Lublin Naked Neck out of the Lublin area in Poland. Very colorful and having a crest. So maybe they have a long widespread but not very well/broadly known history?

It's been said when naked necks arrived in Germany, they 'perfected' the breed and these went on thru western Europe, Americas..

They can be very common or popular in tropical areas- very common in Brazil, as verified by Ron(hellbender) who told me via personal communication. They;re also present in Africa, India basically as landrace/village chickens. A common belief is these being stronger, hardier and more productive. Madagascar seems to have their own NN breed- Madagascar Game.. have also seen naked necked fighting birds on other tropical islands so it seems there probably are more NN breeds that we just don't know about.

France is the only Western country I'm aware of that has popularized and even developed naked neck meat strains(especially free range meat) and at least one breed- Cou nu du Forez(all white NN developed for meat bird in a certain kind of environment I think?)
