Naked Neck/Turken Thread

recipe please! I have never seen or heard about pickled eggs. looks yummy to me and I need to do something about extra eggs.

I use the recipe for pickled eggs on the USDA canning website. They're fridge pickled, though. It's not considered safe to home can them to put on the shelf.

Liquid: 2 cups water
2 cups vinegar ( I prefer apple cider vinegar, but it makes the eggs really dark looking so I mixed it half acv and half white vinegar).

In the jar I put in: 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon dill weed ( usually I use dill seed).
1/3 small onion chunk
1/2 teaspoon salt.
1/2 teaspoon mustard seed ( I left it out of these because I was out).

Put in as many eggs as you can. I was able to put in 10, they were large eggs.
Pour approximately 2 cups of liquid over the eggs.
I then put the jars in water covered over the top. I left them in until it started bubbling, not a rolling boil. I left them around 30 to 40 minutes. Pull them out and left them to seal.

sounds good, thank you. I don't have mustard seeds so I will omit them as well.

This one? Or different? http://nchfp.uga.edu/how/can_06/pickled_eggs.html
I use a basic brine and then add whatever, so many possibilities.
They are great to halve and top a salad with just like a normal hard boiled egg that ends up getting flavored with whatever dressing you use anyway.

Best peeling of fresh eggs I swear by slicing up some lemon to add to the boiling water, don't know why it works and adding vinegar for me hasn't but they peel like store bought when I do it.

Hot pickled eggs jalapeños don't seem to be hot enough, I prefer habeñeros and serranos.
Red and orange habeñeros and green serranos, sliced onion and chopped garlic, mmmm...
Have one left of teriyaki pickled eggs. Only added 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce, cool color but not much flavor. Think I'll replace all the water with teriyaki next time, and maybe add a little pineapple.

what do pickled eggs taste like?

I've never eaten them, the looks/smell is extremely unappealing to me. Says the person who ate chicken feet for the first time recently and found them allright... lol But the thought of biting into pickled eggs really turns my stomach.

both dark eggs and perfect birds. it is a famous breeder monique berte who will send me eggs (bcm and silver cuckoo). I am very lucky!

would cuckoo roo with a Nn hen produce some cuckoo Nn pullets?

That is very exciting! Will you show us pictures of the eggs and chicks?

if the roo is pure for cuckoo then all of his chicks will be cuckoo.

by the way I have wondered what the eggs would look like after repeated crosses of green eggers back to high quality dark egg marans stock.

Me too! My mom always ate pickled eggs that she'd refrigerator pickled in beet juice. I couldn't get past the color at that time and flat out refused to eat them. And I hated beets back then too so it was a double negative in my mind.
