Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I tried to hatch green egger NNs but the only chick that developed died in the shell. I put my new girls in my araucana pen and hope to get some green egger from them.

keep posting pics of your beautiful chickens. what breed will you use in creating green egger NNs?

I'm actually doing away with the green egger project. I was using Easter Eggers.

I think you should make a bachelor pen and make people come to watch them, paying the entrance of course. then you could keep all of those beautiful boys.

I plan to hatch NN/marans eggs hoping to get some feather legged chicks. they should be mostly black so I will finally have somewhat black NNs.

Actually, they are in a bachelor pen, and just this morning one of my neighbors brought her two nieces over so they could buy eggs and check out the chickens. The girls got to hold one of my very friendly and affectionate roosters and were stunned by how sweet he was. They loved watching all of the boys co-habitating peacefully and plan to come back wearing different shoes (they were wearing flip flops) so they can check out the rest of the birds, male and female.

I got lucky...the breeder I bought my first NN hatching eggs from had already created green egg layers, whether it was intentional or not. Mine still have single combs, which I prefer given our heat, and are passing the trait on to their offspring. I also have a couple EEs that I hope to cross with my NNs to increase the range of egg colors.

I know it has been too hot lately...

I crossed mine intentionally. I was going for the pea comb on my green egg layers so that I could identify them easily by their combs. But, they just arfent doing that for me now, so its time to abort this project and move onto something else.

I've had hens lay in the water before. Never figured out why they done that. It wasn't even very hot when they done either.

I think she accidentally dropped it due to lack of space. all the chickens were under the pen as it was hot and sunny. I found 2 other eggs in the corner near the dish with water so she probably got up and as she is tall the egg fell into the dish. or she was standing in water to cool down and dropped the egg.

I have a NN hen that is a cross between a red NN and a black copper Marans. I'll post som pictures later when I'm home.

Sorry, Evan, but with the amount we've invested in feeding these girls, I plan to get my money's worth back out of them via meals.
No problem! I bet they'll taste great!
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they grow and feather out. Give them another week and they'll be trying to perch! So cute! I'm still partial to those grayish colored ones. I'm really curious to see how those turn out. I took a current photo of Peta, my gray+ NN cockerel with feathered shanks. He is SOOOO sweet and so pretty, but feathered out with a lot more color than I'd expected. I'm now starting to think that Shiloh snuck in there at some point instead of Heisenberg to make this pretty boy. I'll probably hang onto him a lot longer than I'd originally planned to. (My other feathered shanks NN boy, Finnig, is in the background in the top photo.)
The grey ones are my favorite! The grey one in the second photo is HUGE compared to the rest of them. He also has a white spot on his head so I think it's a rooster from what Kev said. Evie's chick is also big. (The black one)

Mine love to lay in mud puddles.

Yeah, all of Evie's chicks have been big for me. Her daughter, Ivy, is one of the largest hens I've ever had, and her son, Pepper, was one of my biggest and fastest growing NN chicks, even though he didn't have much breast meat until he got past 28 weeks.
