Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Just how are they. How did you get them?

I pm'ed you about them last week asking a couple questions.

My apologies.. I am not great about checking pm and other times I read with plans to answer later and forget...

I got them via egg trade probably 30 years ago by now. It was supposed to be NN for NN but to my surprise a bunch of the chicks had black skin.

Tried contacting the person for more information but it was difficult and they simply disappeared. So no history prior to me getting them.... they came in a range of feather color, the black(feather) ones looked a lot like naked neck cemani. I did not like the other colors much so they eventually got whittled down to black feather mainly but partridge still shows up.. and for new blood, an outcross was done so now lavender and bantam size also floats around a little bit.

I apologize for that.....

and thank you. Can I ask about weights of your NN at around 13 weeks? if I remember correctly white pullet weighed at 6.5 lbs at that age. I was never in habit of weighing birds before so I'm not sure if that's a nice weight but she does have an awesome breast- very long breast bone and good amount meat. definitely a keeper for breeding for that reason alone.

Wow! My largest Nn at 13 weeks was only 5.5 lbs, and my largest pure NN was only 4.8 lbs at 13 weeks. Whatever your birds are mixed with, I'm even more jealous.

Sorry it took me so long. I totally forgot!

She is 5 months old. No eggs, but I think she is getting close.

I can't tell if she has a big head or if it's an optical illusion. Either way, I like her.

Thanks, I'm still somewhat surprised though, that they;re not heavier since they are half CX... well they were picked up as CX from feed store however they didn't grow at monster speeds, so maybe they are one of those slo gro broilers. They did eventually get huge just not at 8 wks.
