Naked Neck/Turken Thread

@Kev ...I'm still looking for the other two vids that show the whole business in detail. I agree, it doesn't require so much penetration.

Both birds must be manipulated...by stroking their bodies and working them up. Once a cock bird has been conditioned, he delivers quite a load of sperm. Both cock and hen should be housed separately I think...but for certain the cock must. Not really sure if the hen can be kept with other hens or not but before I try this, I'll know a bunch more than I do now.

It is much easier if the rooster is isolated with no hen. Higher semen samples too. However, even with that it varies- some give samples easily after a couple tries. Others are very stubborn about it.

It does not matter with hens.. they can still be with other hens or even with a rooster because it's an automatic reaction. Manipulating to get them into 'condition' isn't necessary.. I grab the hen right there in the pen, if she reacts by squatting that is perfect because it means she is "ready", exposing her vagina, just hold onto her tail so she will stay squatting and keeping it exposed, then squirt it onto the vagina. That;s it. The petting, shaking whatever is unnecessary but might be if she refuses to squat or evert.

as for the hen, yep with her feet still on ground. Lift tail, squirt it onto the everted vagina, let her go. no need to lift her up and set on lap or something- that actually might put her off especially if not used to being handled.. that hen in video was no longer everting by the time he flipped her over- she was fully everting by the time he got her. all that manipulation was unnecessary waste of time.

Found a video.. how he collects is similar to what I use.. however the dance he did with the hen was unnecessary- she was completely ready as soon as he had her- he could have set it on the bench immediately and lifted her tail to deposit it. But it shows how the vent automatically takes it up- by the time he had her flipped over she was no longer everted and still she took it up.

That seems more 'natural'...and far less invasive, The color of the collection seen in the video that I put up makes me wonder if that freaky looking guy didn't have more to do with the process than they lead the viewers to believe.

There is a video the I think I saw linked here on this about it (or maybe it was the heritage breed 2 thread?) - I am blanking on the username (though I can visualize her avatar). This person in the video she shared was demonstrating on smaller (bantam?) birds, so holding and manipulating the rooster may have been easier for her. She had the male and female in separate cages and was sitting, took the boy out, held him sort of butt up, and did a combo of back stroking plus some rubbing with index finger and thumb on either side of the vent. Didn't take long, and she had small plastic pipettes to draw up the semen right when it came out. She put him up and immediately took the hen out - I don't recall her doing anything special with the hen, just deposited it and her vent took it right up. (She said success depended on how fast you got it into the hen). I thought it was such a great idea I even went so far as to order the little micro pipettes for it.

definitely trained and helps a lot if they are caged instead of penned. collecting from roo is harder if he was chased around first. it is why so many vidoes show birds in cages aside record keeping purposes.

never had much success with the roo upside down despite videos showing that and really not recommended for heavy roosters like cornish or cx. nor for heavy hens either.. it;s why I've been mentioning picking up the hens really isn;t necessary- or desirable if working with broilers.

the back and side stroking is necessary for the roosters though. doing that and catching the sample sure does take practice if doing it with no help.

p.s. holding a big heavy rooster upside down between your knees is not good for um, other reasons too.. especially for men wearing shorts.. lol.....

Silly me. I went to add water for the ines that haven't hatched yet, so I was going to do a quick count got to 19 then forgot what I was doing so I forgot to count anymore after that.

A rough guesstimate wound be around 35-40 maybe a few more.
