Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I was just wondering if it was common with Naked Necks to lay double yolkers? My girl Lolly has been laying now for 2 weeks, and every egg she has layed has been a double yolker!

@Josh44, I just have this bantam cockerel that I bought from Kev last year. I let one chick hatch out and it's barred.
As always, space is the issue.

My NN actually thrive in the heat, which is a good thing since we haven't had a high below 100 since the first of June, lots of days pushing 110, low temps of 80. My NN will even sunbathe, but not for long. They also like being misted w/ water when it is hot, my roo will stand there to have his legs and feet hosed off. I recommend NN to all that I talk to when they complain about the heat. Since they are good producers, I consider them ideal chickens for Texas and the Southwest. They also handle winters well, despite the reduced feathering. They have enough down to be insulated when it is cold here. Basically our winters are below freezing at nights, and just above freezing during the day, and only 2 months of cold weather.

I have 5 NN hens and they don't lay double yolk eggs. Just large eggs, normally 5 or 6 a week from each girl.

Does NN stand for "No Neck"? Where's the head on your avatar chicken?

I think it is common for new layers of any breed to lay doubles. When my girls first started laying (EE's) we got a lot of double and one triple yolkers, but after a few weeks they got the kinks worked out and we seldom get doubles anymore.

NN = Naked Neck. The avatar is one of the two silkie roos I have, and the bump that looks like his tail is his head as he is picking the ground. They know they are big birds, but they are reminicent of Cousin It, until you are up close, they are just fuzz. Here is Annie Green Legs

who likes to sunbath in 105 degree temps. She lasts about 3 minutes.
