Momagain1, I'm so sorry to hear about all your hardships!! When it rains it pours and it seems that it's been a torrential downpour at your home! :hugs I hope that your daughter is recovering. That has got to be terribly frightening.

Kev
, I did wonder about the heat lamp. Thanks for the insight. I'm glad to hear that it's not something contagious. I'll still be careful for the next couple of weeks.

pgpoultry, good idea, thank you!

homeschoolchick, my neighbor had a Russian desert tortoise for years. One day she found it being eaten by ants. They actually ate holes in it's neck. Horrible!!

Finally, I went to a meet up today, a couple hours drive north of me, and came home with 2 Jersey Giant chicks. I couldn't resist!

flower, you left without saying goodbye to me. I guess you'll have to look for your shoes hanging from a freeway overpass.

Crikey, Momagain1, when I spoke about ' doesn't look too serious' I was referring to the knobbly neck and not your horrendous attack. That was devastating, but your NN may survive...we're all praying for her.

I had a fox attack (the most significant predator in these parts) a few years back and found my lovely Dark Brahma roo ripped to shreds and cowering in the hedge. Being miles from a vet and it being the weekend, I stitched him, gave him some of the cat's Metacam and cleaned his horrible wounds daily. He went on to make a full recovery and to father a lot of chicks. My fingers will remain crossed for you

Momagain1 I'm very sorry for all your family is going through. Can I please help. Can I have eggs or day old chicks sent to your son? We can't do much since we are scattered all around the world Please PM me and let me know how I can help

I am so very sorry for your loss! I hope your son can rebuild his flock although I know it will be tough to replace Goldie. I too would like to help. I can also send you son eggs and I also have come up with a hen saddle designed especially for NN's. If she is missing alot of feathers it will help keep her warm as well as maybe help against sunburn depending on the weather there. PM me and let me know!
Praying things turn around for you!

my one remaining NN (we lost 25 birds to an attack a couple wks ago)..but my one remaining NN looks TERRIBLE...
she survived the attack; but lost MOSTa TON of her feathers..etc..she looks ridiculously TERRIBLE...she has no open
wounds..its a miracle the ones that surivived did..(we had 11 in the run that literally must have broken down the chicken door to get out of the coop attack...to get into the run...) when I came back home later that day after securing the coop/run and hubby burying the 20 chickens we lost and looking for the remaining 5 missing...(never to be found)...3 more had came home..so they must have ran away and came back when the coast was clear...
she was one of them..smart turken..but...anything we can do to help promote feathering again?

When you get a chance could you post a pic of your NN with it's hen saddle on?

Sure! Here is Miss Attitude modeling her new attire. It was funny when I put some on my other girls she was so very interested in what they had on so I tried to come up with something for the NN girls because the boys were pulling on the skin on their necks. I made it with an extended neck piece and put an embroidered lace attached to that. I have seen the boys grabbing onto that extended neck piece so it is working. So it helps their necks and also their backs as well. This is her summer outfit. Her winter one will be denim with fleece or flannel lining.

Okay I have a question, this is my second time w/ baby chicks and first time w/ NN babies. We finally got our chicks, but it isn't good only 4 are alive, most were DOA and a couple nearly DOA that only lived a few hrs after they got here. The 4 we have left aren't as active as I remember my other baby chicks, but that isn't my question, time will just have to tell on them but my

. My question is these chicks sleep standing on thier heads, is this normal for NN's, b/c my EE babies didn't do that?
