Pic of previous one a little bigger.. hmmm I think I have to keep a few of these.. out of my 25 that hatched 5 are this color. Is this my buff mating with my pied??? or with my pearl grey?? I am not sure why this color is exciting to me.. but they are so cute in there .. can pick them out right away.. And after looking again. I def see the pied...
Now in that pic it looks much lighter, IMO it's not really dark enough to be a Brown in that pic, not even a Brown male (which will be lighter than a Brown Hen)... so now I'm guessing it's either a Pied Buff Dundotte Hen, or a Pied Cinnamon male
I have a few that look pretty close to that one, and I call them Cinnamons, but the Cinnamon in Australia is much darker, and what I consider a Brown in my flocks... and like I've mentioned before different breeders call different shades of the tan gene birds by different names (and would call that keet a Brown), so you can call it what ever you want, lol. I'd keep it too, it'll be a gorgeous bird to have in your flock - "Yard Art"
If you only have 1 Pied Hen in your flock, then that has to be who laid the eggs these keets came from (if they are all pied anyway), and she is obviously carrying a recessive tan gene. If you got a couple of these keets that aren't Pied then it's possible your other Hens may all be carrying the tan recessive gene too, you never know, lol. Is your male an actual Buff (only partially pearled on the flanks and bars on the wing feathers like a Royal Purple or a Coral Blue) or is he a Buff Dundotte (fully pearled all over like a Pearl Grey)?
here is the male buff? All i started out with this year were the male buff? a pied grey pearl hen, 2 reg grey pearl hens and 2 male grey pearl.. and now I have keets coming out my ears,,,, lol,, love it.... I have a bator full, hatched out the first bator and have 8 in egg carton waiting their turn. and I am proping them up with books like you said and rotating it. see I do listen.. teehhheee
The pic is too tiny for me to see if he is pearled all over or not, lol... post a bigger one, close up if you can.
I'd keep all 5 too! You think you have keets coming out your ears, lol you should see my pen full of keepers, there's almost 40 in there and I still have more young keets in brooders I'm gonna wanna keep too, lol
ok just went out and checked him he is pearled on the bottom half and solid on the wings and back.. hope that helps. I am only up to 15 keepers but then I dont know what will come out of the next hatch or the next
poor man! I got addicted to the ornamental ducks. So he had to build me an aviary. Now I have him and the lil man searching for nests with me all the time. I think you are right he will soon be
wondering why he ever helped find the first nest...
but I am loving it. Hooked for sure. And thanks to you, I am learning so much about them.
