I haven't noticed any of our breeds being noisy. We have tons of different breeds, and I think some of them are supposed to be noisy but I don't notice it. Of course maybe that's because we have 1 guinea and she can be very noisy (though not as noisy as when we had 6 guineas - almost unbearable). And we have 2 geese - also noisy. And ducks - noisier than the chickens. We have around 100 roosters and I hardly even notice compared to the 1 guinea and 2 geese. I've heard peacocks are really noisy too. When we were in the city though, we just had a few hens (though we weren't supposed to in our subdivision) and no one even noticed. They just make sounds after they lay an egg, but rarely otherwise. The neighbor's dogs (and even blue jays) are much more noisy than a chicken could ever be.
I am wondering...since loud is obviously relative...Could it be narrowed down to....loud enough that my neighbor complained...or something. I have had budgies that were really loud while I was in the room with them...but it only matters if It causes you problems....?
i have some OEGB that are loud, and some that sound like an old man clearing his throat... LOL... and all of his sons crow just the same...
but my quietest are my shamo... i have one rooster that doesn't crow at all... he crowed for two days when i got him, but after that, nothing... never again... i dunno why...
This is my very loud silkie hen named Sparkle. She talks to you about everything. And when I go to collect eggs from the coop, she is the only one to come running up to me to talk lol.
And here are my loudmouths as well. I have a very rambunctious Americauna hen that is only 7 months old. She picks fights with my young roo too. After Sparkle started talking, this one decided she had to compete, and BAWWWWWWKKK as loud as her little lungs could! I swear, sometimes I think Sparkle believes she is singing.
