Native American Heritage Anyone?

Well, my great grandma on my father's side was 100% something, some say it's Cherokee, and some say Blackfoot. I was always told blackfoot when I was a kid, so we'll stick with that! Other than that, I have a lot of german on my dad's side, plus who knows what else! On my mom's side I am 50% dutch, 25% french and 25% irish. So I guess I am always fighting with myself, that's why I'm so MEAN!!

I'm 95% certain that I am 1/32 something. My Grandma on my mom's side has been researching this for years, and has only been able to find one picture of a man named "Charlie" who would be my great-great-great grandfather. The problem is that no one in her family, especially her father, would acknowledge that they had "indian blood", so it's been next to impossible to find out anything, although you can tell just by looking at my Grandma's facial features that there's SOMETHING there. My Mom plans on getting a DNA test done as soon as she can afford it.

Shelleyd Unrelated kind of is your last name Shelley? Thats my maiden and we've got the same kind of lineage.Just courious, not a crazy stalker.

I know I am 1/64th - traced it back. Interesting Family history including Cotton Mather and his father Increase Mather - initiator of the witch trials. Ah family.... They will make you nuts if they aren't already!

Nope, first is Shelley, last is Davis. That's where all the german comes in!!

My dad's maternal grandma was the native american. Her married name was Collins, but idk what her maiden was.

Cherokee on mother's side and Chickasaw/Cherokee on father's side - but we can't figure who/what/where. All we know is that the Cherokee Chief John Ross once told my gg-aunt to tell the family to go register. He knew our family and they were Cherokee. I don't think they ever did. What little I know, I wonder if he knew more about our McDonald line (His mother was a McDonald) than we do.

I would be interested in something like this too- We were also told that we had cherokee in us and then I found out my great granddaddy came here from somewhere in Texas instead of E. Tenn like I had thought for a long time. So I don't know about the Cherokee. We also were told that were Black Dutch and on another side of the family they said black irish- Who knows ?
Last year A female elder who stopped by where we were having our flea market every week, singled me out and started asking me questions about my heritage. I really couldn't give her any specifics because I really don't know-- Then she asked me to see my teeth. Strange I thought but I didn't care so I opened my mouth and she looked in and said yeah definitely native blood. I would really like to know more about my lineage but I have no idea where to start. Has anyone ever heard of someone looking at your teeth and determining your ancestry? I don't necessarily have a lot of faith in the teeth thing , but I don't entirely dismiss it either as I have not had any info on this kind of thing. I knew that they were using genetics to trace ancestry to areas of Africa , but have not heard about genetic tracing for native americans.

Would really like input and info on this subject--Wayne

Oh I forgot to mention I did a search for some of the surnames ( that I knew) and found out some of the origins. This has been a while and I hope my memory is correct--

She was looking to see if you had Asian Shovel teeth, people with Native American Hertiage most often(but not always) have Asian Shovel teeth. I got them...

ey that's great !! I didn't know what she was looking for. But she said definitely. So maybe the what the old people said was true--Wish they did have some kind of genetic testing . Searching family trees and trying to put together the history and locales of all the different tribes is way too complicated for me. Especially with all the movement at different times of a lot of the groups.

The side of my family that came up from Texas is the Bettie side. My grandfather ( Charlie Mitchell Bettie) married my Grandmother (Jeanette Sue Cudd) . He was Mr. Charlie to everybody and everybody called her ms Nett. I don't know where her people came from ( the cudds) . Maybe some of her people came with his people as a group.. So maybe we are cousins--

If you are a little crazy--maybe we are related!! lol
