Let us know how it goes and what the vet suggests. :)
Hey guys! I know this is far later but i forgot to respond, and it took me a while to find an effective solution.
The vet saw her once and I had to pay a lot of money because she fell under "exotic" since shes a bird and had to pay a fair chunk to have her seen. The vet sent me home with a one time dose of oral ivermectin but it was ineffective and I had to sign a paper saying i wont ever use their eggs for human consumption because it is still illegal in canada. When i called back they said they were no longer accepting chickens (thats okay with me because they dont know anything about chickens anyways). The stray chicken doesnt have an upper beak so she cant preen her feathers, so she ends up getting reinfected at some point by wild birds. The most effective solution i found was something similar to permathrin called pyrethrin powder, which is essentially the same except derived from the plant. It works great for me and i powder them after a bath, then powder again two weeks later. after two years with her ive found she sometimes needs help unsheathing her feathers, and that cuts down on how much food the lice have. Pyrethrin is fully legal here and i got a big bottle of it in the garden section at canadian tire. It even has a spout that makes it easy to apply
