Need advice on gosling

Thank you so much for the input! Lucy is my first goose, and I've been comparing her development to that of the ducks I've raised. Needless to say, they are different. My ducks seemed like they were nearly full grown by the time they started getting feathers. Lucy looks like she's got a lot of growing to do before she's "full-grown". She does seem to be hungry 24/7 though, so I guess that's a good sign!
Very good sign indeed.

So, Lucy is growing like a weed and is continuing to do well. She has been free ranging with the big birds now since July 4th. How old does she have to be before I'll be able to tell what gender s/he is?

Ok. I think Lucy might have "angel wing". Her left wing is pointing outwards and not lying next to her body. What can I do about this? I give them "16% all purpose poultry crumbles" from Orschelns twice a day. The rest of the time, my flock free ranges. Lucy is about 2 months and one week old. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi and sorry to hear Lucy may have angel wing, here is a link from the duck thread about how to wrap a ducks wing which would most likely be the same for a goose. it will probably take 2 of ya to do this,. did you ever find out if she is gander or goose?

I
hope this helps.

Thank you for the link! I guess I'll be looking to see if we have any vet wrap...

No, I don't yet know if she is gander or goose. I'm not really sure how to tell until they're full grown. I've read that the way to tell is by the bump they develop between their eyes (at the top of their beak). The males have larger bumps than the females (though I don't have anything to compare to as she is my only goose).

I didn't realize she is Chinese I was thinking she was Embden for some reason, and yes gander have much larger knobs than geese do.

Is it possible to wrap it wrong? She's holding the wing kinda funny now that it's wrapped. Is that okay? I wrapped JUST the wing and not her body since the angel wing only affects the last joint of her wing.
