Need GEESE information **UPDATE-New gosling PICS**

Interesting because that was my guess too, even though I have never raised geese. The one with the lighter yellow head on top seems to be on the lookout a lot and seems a tiny bit bigger. So I was guessing that might be a male. I love these poor babies already.

umm.. i think they are happier with you. they look a little big eyed... my experience is that they should have bright eyes and smiling faces.. i know thats not possible (the smiling part) but thats the only way i can explain it. i'd give them another couple of days..

do they have something to get under? even an empty box on its side??

but let us know how it goes! you will love them
:)

Yes, I have some cover for night time or anytime they want it. It isn't ideal but we are working on a wooden house for them.

Oh you have pics of them!!

Those gawky adolescent geese never look all that good . . . these guys look rough but ALSO well enough that they should respond to your TLC quickly.

I get the "bright eyes and smiling faces" . The corner of thier "lips" lol does curve upward in a "smile" all the time, but the real smile is in their eyes. Mine sort of squint and look at me with one eye and murmur (well, they are still peeping at this point) happily when I bend over their playpen.

Maybe mix up a waterer with an electrolyte solution, and give them a few days of chick starter for increased protein to build up their unused muscles. They shouldn't have high protein for more than a week or so, due to their blood feathers coming in about now and the possibility of angel wing (a diet too high in protein causes this).

They don't need much in terms of "shelter" from the weather or elements. A three sided southern facing enclosure should be fine. They need SAFETY, so predator proof enclosure is the most important. At least until they are older, Embdens I hear are HUGE birds capable of intimidating larger critters.

Finally, (if you have the time

) just sit near them and let them see that you just sit there and aren't interested in attacking them. That you bring food and water is also something they will realize and forgive you for being huge and monstrous for

Awwww!

They don't look all that bad,
just a little rough around the edges.
I wouldn't pick them up either.
Even my bonded to human goslings will naturally react when picked up like I going to eat them with screaming and flinging their feet around in self defense.
I would just talk to them softly and peep, peep, peep back at them and just let them get use to you.
It takes time to build trust.
You sure don't want to rush that.
Please keep us posted on their progress!

I used to pic my goose up all the time when he was little.. now he is just way to big... he saw me as momma and if something scared him he would come running to me so I could pick him up and if I was sitting on the ground he would get in my lap... he still runs to me if he is uposet and sometimes I think he is tattleing on the ducks... my baby scovies follow him around like he is momma and it anooys him..lol

At my other place, when I put the guinea keets outside with the rest of the poultry, they decided my flock of Toulouse geese were their mamas and tried to follow them.

My geese thought they were being chased

and so I'd look out the window and see the geese running and squawking in fear with five guinea keets close at their heels trying to keep up

They don't care as long as they are safe which they are now since you took them. Rose is right about the adult goose possibly not taking to them. The goodies are still a really good idea.
