Need help please - no clue what these are

We got our first chickens yesterday. We've made them a temporary home in our shed, as my husband surprised us, so it was very short notice. The guy we got them from (on craigslist) had gotten them because they were "cute" when they were chicks and his kids wanted them.

They were born in March, but the guy didn't know what kind they were and even though I've been researching chickens for a little while now, I still don't know what they are. Can someone help me? Sorry the pics aren't the greatest, I'm using my webcam and the lighting isn't that great.

Also we had a small egg this morning waiting for us when we went in, how old are they when they start laying? It was my understanding they shouldn't be laying for another few months now? If they were born in March they would be about 3 months.

Looks like EE's to me from what I can see in the pictures.

Edit: What color was the egg you found?

I am not positive but the white looks like an EE. What color egg was it? Did the guy tell you if they were different breeds or all the same? Some can lay eggs earlier than others it just matters on the chicken.

Here is the pic of the egg, it was kind of on the small side. You can't really see a good coloring on the pic, it was like a greenish color, almost look gray though, its a weird color. Are they too young to lay?

I would second the EE vote.
Around here, the only chicks for sale in places someone like their previous owner would find them are Barred rocks, EEs, buff orps, RIR, and sex links. Those are standard at feed stores all spring around here. So if your area is similar, chances are anyone who got chickens for the cute factor without considering the future, they would be one of those breeds.

Not necessarily, they can start laying at 16 weeks old. If they were hatched in the beginning of March, that would make them right at 16 weeks old.

that's an ee egg.... they look older than 3 months to me. Can't see the pic well enough to see what you have other than the light colored ee.....

White is an EE and that egg probably came from her since that is the color of eggs that they lay. She also looks older than 3 months looking at the comb and feather development. Very pretty

Thanks, sounds like everyone agrees on the white one being an EE.... Not sure if they are all the same breed, but they DO all have the puffy cheecks like that.... The tan one and the black one are usually huddled together but I'm still trying to get a better pic of them....

We were thinking they were kind of big as well....
