Need help with baby deer, strange lumps on behind, ackward situation.

They are not glands, they are above the anus on the left hand side, next to each other. I think its just from the ticks

She has gone off in the woods again (she roams as she wishes, she is not contained) so I have to wait 'till she comes back.

I'm guessing it is just a reaction to the tick bites. When I remove a deer tick from myself, the reaction is intense and swift. I've weathered two outbreaks of Lyme disease and later took part in a vaccine development program that was worse than having the disease. I have seen deer and fox with welts and inflamed areas all over their bodies from tick bites. The bite of a deer tick can cause these severe reactions and tissue necrosis.

I read the post from Cloverleaf Farm. I am surprised a rehab center would destroy the deer. In our area, upstate, eastern NY rehabbers are anxious to help. With young deer/fawns, they will come look and treat. They have told us that older deer, wild -not like this one, do poorly in rehab.
Depends on the other wildlife issues in one's area I guess but often rehabbers are great sources for advice that vets don't have. If they have a license it is legal for them to treat, feed, etc.
good luck....sounds like a fascinating experience, raising this little one.

Just watch out for them hunters, someone in our area had raised a fawn from very small he even came into their house and was very tame she put a big red bow around it's neck to let all hunters know it was someones pet, everyone in the area knew about this deer, well someone shot and killed it. I know it was probably a hunter not knowing anything about deer and family but a Big red bow would maybe set off some alarms, so just keep a close eye on the young one during hunting season.

So true , most would be destroy.....white tail that are tame....can be a real danger.......bucks that have imprint on humans...will attack and kill a man.....happen many of times.....they think you as another buck. Tame does are ok .....but any bottle fed buck can NEVER BE released , or can you go in their pen during the rut. I know some people will say they have, man not far from me was killed by his pet buck he had for 3 yrs.

OP will not get in trouble unless they have it penned, RULE ON BOTTLE FEEDING DEER DOES OK, NEVER A BUCK....NEVER , NOWAY,

The doe fawn to the left , I bottle fed from 3 days, she was farmed raised , not taken from the wild.

Before calling the state dnr or rehabber.....here what was post on a deer forum..

Two older ladies had hand fed two fawns, someone report them.....state DNR can out , they were not penned. No fines or charges, but they did shoot both fawns , yep right in front of the woman.

Don't want to give bad news ,but depend on your state.....some have way to many deer , car deer crash kill many people .
