Need help with picking a breed

I looked into Mypetchicken.com and the 3 minimum is if you live near a major city. For people who live in the country, they recommend ordering 5-8.

I had speckled sussex for years. They were marvelous birds, and very very gentle. AND gorgeous.

As long as you have a heat lamp in the coop they do really well in the winter.

I LOVE mine too. They are indeed a wonderful breed.

I'm going to cast my vote for the Delaware also. The lay large brown eggs, are cold hardy and beautiful white birds with dark tail feathers, and light speckling around the hackles.

My babies even though I didn't handle them as much as I have handled other babies were so attached to me they followed me around the pasture every time I went out there for weeks and weeks after the joined the other chickens. They still hang out close to me whenever I am out there working.

Why not try hatching them yourself instead of buying day olds? If you pick your breed, then try buying eggs from a breeder, you'll get better results at the show than if you buy from a hatchery!

I agree with you guys about the Speckled Sussex, They are beautiful birds. I could ship you some eggs if you are interested in them. I have some pics of my SS below.

I would also suggest different colors of the Rock and Orps, I could ship Barred Rock eggs too, but that's probably the variety you already have.

If you are interested in eggs, I could ship as few as 6 eggs since you are only wanting a few chicks.

Here are some of my Speckled Sussex

I second that..

jaimslee4u: Currently I have two buff's and two rocks

When you say Buff's do mean Buff Orpingtons? Or something else?
( There is a lot of Buff breeds out there )

Are your Rocks Barred Rocks?

You might consider a different color of the same breed you all ready have...

Yes, sorry they are Orphington's. I love the silly little creatures! I was thinking about Lavendar's are they show worthy?

I'm not sure if they are show worthy because I don't know if they are a recongized varitey yet. But I can tell you they are
VERY EXPENSIVE
