Any number of antibiotics can be used to remove Clostridium perfringens. Some choices include: ampicillin, amoxicillin, metronidazole, erythromycin, and tylosin. Tetracycline was formerly on the list but too much resistance has developed. If Clostridium perfringens is responsible for the diarrhea, a response to antibiotics is generally seen in a couple of days. A total antibiotic course of several weeks is typical.

Historically, penicillin G in dosages of 10-24 million U/d was the drug of choice. Currently, a combination of penicillin and clindamycin is widely used.[19]

I used amoxycillin, which worked very well.

I just got sulmet and save a chick electrolytes and save a chick probiotics is this even going to work or not?

Sulmet isn't indicated for gas gangrene (clostridium perfringens), if that is what you think it is.

Do you have any amoxycillin or similar antibiotics at home? Even if they were prescribed for humans they can be used on chickens, you just have to work out the dosage. If you have anything in your medicine cabinet then let me know what it is, and we can work out how much to give your girl.

Trying to decide if I should just try it and wait and see if it works or if I should just wait and pick something else up tommarow? Would only one or two days of sulmet do anything? Or should I just wait until I can get the proper antibiotics, I'm just worried her condition might worsen if I don't do something, help!

I'm going to go dig through a box and see if I have something I think I might and let you know I am going to need your help with dosage thanks so much!!

I don't have a lot of experience, but since Sulmet isn't recommended for gas gangrene I don't think it would do any good, so it wouldn't be in her best interest to give it to her. I don't think it would hurt to give her the save a chick electrolytes and probiotics though - they can't do her any harm.

Is your girl still drinking ok, and is she eating at all?
