need homecoming attire help

OMG, that pic is HOT!!! GF is wearing tea length, best description I can get from DS. She showed him the dress and said to "match her"... He was under dressed in my opinion last year, but he said he was fine. He just went with a friend. Im thinking vest also. I think he will go for that. I'll let him read all the responses and we will go shopping on Saturday. Thanks everyone!!!

A good suit is an investment. he will need one for job interviews , graduation, college events. Mens warehouse does free alterations on suits you buy from them and free pressing. a good charcoal gray is more versatile in the long run than black. black is not appropriate for job interviews if possible see the dress. find out if it is more toward the red or blue end of the purple spectrum. good luck there must be pics

Black pants, charcoal grey dress shirt, purple tie, or no tie. Considering she usually sees him and every other guy in jeans and a t-shirt, it will seem very dressed up, even without the tie.

I'd go with the charcoal gray or black dress shirt. Why purchase a purple shirt that he may never wear again? He'll be more likely to wear the other colors again later with a pair of jeans.

Of course, I feel the same way about gowns for the girls. I have a dislike for events that require the purchase of a garment that will probably get used only once. It doesn't exactly teach fiscal responsibility to teenagers.

(Heck, even for my wedding I told the guys to just wear a dark suit & the women to wear anything they wanted in my wedding pallette. This way the only cost of the wedding was transportation to the event.)

That is why I get all my homecoming/prom/formal dresses on the clearance rack for $25 or less... or borrow from my friends

That way its free and I have a different dress to wear

It really depends on what his schools tradition is for homecoming. Mine was dress nice, jeans ok as long as they are nice new condition. Where we now live and my kids are in high school they don't even do a homecoming dance. Even the prom is held at the school gym and not all the guys go formal even if their date is. I spent $200 on my daughters prom dress last year because she had a boyfriend and it was a special night. They broke up 3 weeks before prom. The prom was held too late in the year and all the kids coupled up were breaking up (spring fever I guess). So her and her best friend went with a good guy friend. He was considered the hot ticket going with a beauty on each arm. Then I saw pictures of the prom. Girls spending hundreds on dresses dancing with guys in jeans and button up shirts. Even her best friend didn't go nuts with a new dress; she wore a dress she had worn two years ago that I would call semi formal because it wasn't full length. Guess who's not gonna spend $200 on a dress this year.

At 15 he still has a lot of growing to do. Unless there will be a number of occasions for him to wear a suit, probably not a practical purchase at this point in his life. I do not understand why you would say that a black suit is inappropriate for a job interview? Black is immenently suitable for virtually all occasions where a suit is appropriate.

I have to agree; he should get a shirt that he likes and will wear again (even if it IS the purple one

) When I purchased a dress shirt for my DS recently, I KNEW that he would want something very dark. I purchased a couple of shirts and returned the ones he did not like. If there had been time, I would have taken him shopping, but he sprung the need on me at the last minute. Since then he has chosen to wear his black shirt on several occasions, both with and without a tie he selected last May.
