Need some hatching buddies - Hatching May 24-28

My homemade incubator isn't the best for taking pictures of chicks once they hatch....but I did my best!

Awww, I love the first one where the two are peeking right out at you.

I will be on day 20 in the morning. I did finally see one egg wriggle when I flashed a light on it. I am hoping for some pips at least by tomorrow night.
Come on baby chicks..
This bator runs a little warm..I keep my humidity around 55 to 60, don't like it much higher than 60 during lock down. I do different temps and humidity in different bators..this one needs to read a little lower. On another one, I keep it up around 65 during lock down. Anyone else find that different bators, different temps and humidity work better?

I'm excited to see the color mix on these.

I woke up to two pips this morning...day 20. Knew I would have some pip today, thought maybe later, but it seems I just may have some babies by tonight. I knew I would probably have some early because like I said, this bator runs warm.
Here we go hennypenny...any for you yet??

I noticed some others putting their eggs in the egg crates to hatch..is there a reason for that? I'm new to this and I though you were supposed to lay them down?

Anyone else hatch ducks? How do you keep the bedding dry. I no more then put the water in the brooder and is filthy and half gone. lol! It's hard to keep a drop of fresh water in there. (I think I'm going to go pick up one of the self feeder for their drinking water.)

Happy Hatching!!

Don't hatch ducks, but thinking that is a good idea on getting something different for their drinking water. I have a friend that hatches ducks, they are sooo cute. Their little tiny beaks at first...adorable!

Ok, I knew I would be doing this once I got some pips...back bending, peering into that bator...I will have a sore back by tonight. This is always amazing.

I have a pip,Im suprised any eggs survived after not being turned for a week.So far 1 of 38 is pipping, blah and now I will be gone all day.

Well I got one more duckling to show for my efforts, bringing the grand total to 4 of 6, not too bad!

And in other news, my new eggs arrived yesterday and will be set this evening, so I can wait another 28 days! Not staggered this time. That was too nerve racking.

Wow! I love seeing all the pictures. I am worried though. I had two silkies hatch last night. The first one to pip was not the first one to hatch. The first one pipped Tuesday night and then began unzipping around 6pm last night. The unzip for this guy took a long time but then again I am new to this. He unzipped and chirped for about 2 hours and then the membrane was still stuck in some places so he pushed and pushed. In the meantime another egg that had pipped earlier in the day started unzipping and was unzipped and out within 20 minutes. The other guy finished up sometime during the night.

Here is the thing.... the one that came out rather fast is alert, eyes open, trying to walk but clumsily and seems okay to me. The other one that took so long to get out is very weak. It doesnt jump if I make a noise and it wont open it's eyes. It just lays there sleeping and when it does try to move aroudn it's almost like his neck is broken or something. He just drags his head along. Now this guy is on the right in the picture and he is fluffy. The other active one is not sticky but his feathers didnt fluff, he still looks wet, but he isnt wet. Humidity too high?

I hope this picture turns out.
