Need some help really bad, maggots ate through my rooster neck!

One way to tell if it is botfly is to pour peroxide into the wound and the bots will pop up and down to try to get air .. Have some needle nosed pliers ready to grab ahold and pull them out .. They will look like big ole maggots

... The peroxide makes it to where they cant breathe so they will have to surface for air ..be ready cause they are quick...

Go easy on the peroxide in addition to cleansing a wound, it also kills healthy, healing tissue. Physical removal of the maggots, flushing with a betadine solution and application of antibiotic ointment would be a safer way to go.

I agree .. But I have never nor has any of the vets I have worked for been able to remove botfly larvae without peroxide as the larvae will just go deeper into the hole when you try to remove them... The peroxide is a one time usem only to get the larvae to the surface....

Well I accedently rips one in half, and I can't see the others, but the little idiot did go deeper, I will try again later, I did use some peroxide.

Uggh .. You want to get the remainder out as well as it can casue infection. YEp going deeper is a good sign they are bots...,. God they are nasty things....

About the maggots. Maggots used for medical purposes, yes, only eat dead flesh, but there are other species of maggots (not used in medicine) than can and do eat live flesh. It's called myiasis and it kills livestock all the time.

I was wondering, I saw on the discovery health when this guy had these bot or what ever they are, he put saran rap over his wound and the little beast coulnd't breath so they came close to the surface, is it worth trying to do on General? (my rootser)
