Excellent!

Items needed:
  • Mortar and pestal
  • Gram scale
  • Suspension syrup
  • Sweetener/flavoring agent.
  • Calculator

  • Medication bottle

We use ORA-Plus and Ora-Sweet. One is the suspension, the other is flavoring agent.

Treating pigeons for canker with metronidazole is almost impossible to do safely with pills, so what I do is take two of my 400 mg metronidazole tablets, grind them up and mix them with 10 ml Ora-Plus and 10 ml Ora-Sweet. That gives me 20 ml of suspension with 800 mg of metronidazole, which is 40 mg/ml.

Edited to add:
I just found something called ORA-Blend, which might be a better option than using
ORA-Plus and Ora-Sweet.

I think I will buy that the when I run out of the stuff I have.

If any one is interested... I found this site in re: alternative to RX Lasix
As I have hen with heart problems that my vet advised she would prescribe Lasix
If she were to treat her.

Since Lasix is unavailable without a script (meaning constant vet bills)
I found info on line as alternatives

Is Lasix one that requires constant checking of blood? If not, I think most vets will prescribe a years worth of medication.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but my eyes glazed over when we were speaking on the phone....
When she she was running down this list and got to "Heart"...
My mind started spinning...

Since then, I've been pounding the pavement, (sort of speaking...)
On line.

I might be a bit late, but I'm from NW Washington. We use WFC for syringes and vet wrap for our hens and horses, not sure if there are any of those stores by you. We also order vaccines online.

Never too late for good advice. This is an issue I'm always trying to keep up on. Ive learned to stock up and be ready for everything with this flock.

Thank you.
