Neighbor dogs

I only needed to read the first page of comments to see that virtually 100% agree that the barking won’t bother the chickens.

But you HAVE to figure out a visual barrier.
This will set those dogs insane. If you can’t invest in “expensive” fencing, at the very least look into the bamboo stuff that come in a roll. It may only last a year, but that will give you time to decide if :
A. You love chicken keeping
And want to invest in a more expensive fence
B. You want to move to a bigger place (hey, chicken math)
C. Maybe the dog hoarder will move! (You can always pray)

Reporting her for the dogs will start this whole thing off to be a Hatfield and McCoy’s situation from the get-go

She’ll say:
Your chickens are noisy
They stink
They are drawing flies
That you have 100 of them

No amount of smiles and free eggs will help this once it gets started.

Just figure out what kind of visual barrier first , get it up, THEN build your coop in peace.

I am an urban chicken keeper.
We have a six foot privacy fence. But there is one area where my crazy nextdoor neighbor can lie on a chaise lounge on her very high deck, with her wineglass in her hand, ear plugs in her ears, reading and surveying my entire yard, 1/2 of which is like an urban farm, the other half is an inground pool.

I don’t appreciate this, I bought a house with a tall fence for a reason!
Especially in the nice 8 months of the year here, because she spends all day everyday out there sunning, drinking and reading in a bikini (she’s in her 70’s btw).

Just as I don’t want to be watched, I don’t appreciate seeing her screaming, flailing and flopping whenever any insect flies near her.

Finally DH built a frame, attached it strategically to that area of our fence and we mounted a double layer of “coolaroo” fabric to block her out. (CoolarooUSA.com)

Is it beautiful?
Oh heck no.
But does it protect our eyes from the occasional insect induced bikini top failure?
Oh yeah baby!

I know your dyin to know why she wears earplugs all the time....
am I right?

Because she has a Weiner dog, who barks from sunup to sundown.

I don’t know what’s worse, the barking, or her every-15 minute tirades of HER screaming “SIMON! SIMON HONEY SHUT UP!!!”

If only there was an audio-barrier....

OMG!
The mental image you scorched into my brain is going to scar me for life!

I used to have a crack head neigbour who’s untrained and aggressive pit bulls would get out a 3am and they would be out there screaming for them... I sympathize with you, but a 70 Year old with “Insect induced bikini top failure” was never a problem for us, thankfully!

Our neighbours breed maltese terriers. I never want to own one. Constant yappers! For a while their run had a visual of my chickens. Sent the dogs into a frenzy but didn't bother my chickens. Now the dog run is on the other side of their property. With visual contact lost everyone is happier.
Can you build your run several feet from the fence so you can plant evergreen bushes or hedging against the fence? The chooks will enjoy the greenery & it will give you the privacy you need. Better & longer lasting than most material.
