Neighbor threatening me and another neighbor about chickens

I mentioned to the neighbors that I would be getting chickens and would attempt to follow code and not get a roo. They would probably know I had a roo before I did as I often leave for work before dawn. I would try to rehome him as soon as possible, but if we DID have a roo that bothered them too much, they were welcome to come get it, process it and cook it up for us all for dinner. They looked like this

. and have never mentioned our chickens again.

Great advise to follow. Sorry to hear of your ugly ugly neighbor. Isn't it terrible how people use animals as weapons and the animal usually pays the ultimate price. How sad. I hate ignorant people. Just my two cents worth.

Shooting the dog. Getting some roosters. Posting "No Trespassing" signs.

Come on. Who cares where they are from, or what they expect their neighbors to act like. I really don't care if they object to what you are legally allowed to do. (Loved the post about the neighbor objecting to how the garden looked!)

If your neighbor threatened you, CALL THE POLICE/SHERIFF!!!

You'll be suprised what a visit from the local law enforcement will do to change someone's attitude. Especially if you are in the right.

After reading this entire post I have to agree that the best action is to document everything. Write down dates, times, etc. Print out the local ordinance allowing livestock. You get the point.

Of course, if this doesn't work, shoot the d a m n dog.

Sounds to me like your neighbor has a mental disorder - asking you for favors, like pet sitting, and storing stuff on your property, and then coming over to threaten you over chickens. It's possible that her husband does not know what she did - he may not be unstable like her. Also, is her dog so wonderfully trained that if she told it to go over and kill some roosters, that it would? I don't think my genius dogs would figure out how to go find which are roosters and kill them! I like the post which said to pray for that neighbor - either to get normal, or move away! But be sure you also pray that you get good neighbors in exchange, not worse ones!

This is what I would do in your situation.

1- Take every threat seriously.

2- File a police report. Detail everything.

3- tell her she has 24 hours to remove all her belongings from your property.

4- Post no tress passing signs. (after 24 hours)

5- Tell her to find someone else a pet sitter.

6- Tell her you posted no tress passing signs and if she steps foot on your property you will call the police.

7- Do not ever give her eggs or anything else. EVER.

8- Install LOCKS on your coop and hen house. She may try to poison or harm them.

Then tell her this, and then sever contact with her completely-

I am fully within my rights to own chickens and roosters. I WILL be getting chickens regardless of what you say. You can call the police all you want because I am not doing anything illegal. HOWEVER, what YOU are doing(threatening violence) IS illegal and I WILL call the police ON YOU if you ever threaten my family or livestock again.

DONE.

You NEED a police report. She will lie and say her dog "got loose" if she has it kill your birds and you need proof.

Good luck!

Honestly, I am so glad I wasn't eating or drinking anything. This one got me good.

I don't know about getting guineas or peacocks unless you can tolerate the noise yourself. I don't have any for that reason. I do have roosters though and my neighbors love them. Go figure.

I agree, file a police report just so you have something on record. You may need it a year from now or even less then that. I'm the type of person that would tell her to bring it on since I am "allowed" to have animals on my property. Something is just not right with that person. If you are doing them favors it's time to stop and have them get there stuff and leave or you can have a "yard sale" and make some money for a few roosters.
