My neighborhood has a outside cat...he belongs to nobody but we all care for and feed him, make sure he has his shots and is flea free...We call him "grey cat" I also have 2 smallish dogs a Peke mix (Allie) and a Pom mix (Kubbie) both have been introduced to my hens and they get along fine....the dogs just want to sniff chicken tail every now and them......Today about an hour before dusk Allioe started barking like crazy at the backdoor so I went to let her out...both dogs shot out the door at run run and attacked the very large hawk that Grey cat had pounced on (I assume it had snuck down to mount a ground attack)....Grey Cat, Allie and Kubbie were all fine and the "True Blood Flock" had all hidden out of sight and were untouched....the Hawk carcass was promptly buried in the swamp/woods next door. Grey Cat , Allie and Kubbie all got extra special treats and loves.
