Here is a link for a "Tour de Coops" held in Phoenix; this is the 2nd annual. I did not go last year (just heard about it a few months ago).

When I read threads like this, I'm so glad I no longer live in the west. Here in Thailand, if I walked into the local council office to ask about keeping chickens, someone there would more than like offer me some, because they would never for a minute think I'm trying to find out if I can keep them. Over here, it's a matter of if you want to keep chickens, then keep them. If neighbors don't approve, there's no law in place preventing them from moving

. Of course, as you may have guessed, no Thai neighbors would ever think of complaining in the first place. I do have some European neighbors, but they are only here for two or three months of the year, and in any case, they are all lovely people except one Danish woman who complains about everything. What a miserable world she lives in, and I often wonder why she even comes to Thailand when in her eyes, everything about the place is wrong

She once suggested that my wife and I should buy a farm because it seems I like to have animals. I politely replied that I would gladly exchange our house for a farm, so if she goes ahead and buys a farm, I'll take her up on her offer

All jokes aside...................I really enjoy the amount of freedom one gets to enjoy over here, and I think all those restrictive laws back in the west really suck.

Madison has a coop tour every year! They advertise it and it is very well- attended, they have a screening of Madcity Chickens with popcorn and soft drinks afterward. People in Madison go nuts over there coop (mine is just a plain old rural shed, as I love outside of Madison) They have some neat ones.

These are all such great ideas! I love the thought of getting some mums and other autumnal props to make things look extra nice.

Sorry I don't have a flier but wanted to say the tour de coops sounds like a wonderful idea! I agree-scrub the coops and runs til they sparkle, fresh thick shavings, maybe get some stall dry or such. Decorate with pumpkins and mums and pretty baskets of eggs. Play up the environmentalist aspects but don't sound too hippy-bring up family values and stuff like that too.

One of our kids said we're like "...crispy republicans" after seeing a display of books on "the crunchy conservative movement". But it wouldn't hurt to mention the words "freedom" and "civil rights" in regards to your (entirely legal) use of your property......
