You need to find a legal way to solve the problem. Nothing wrong with being creative, but a lot wrong with allowing their irresponsibility to cause you to do something you may really regret.

they do not care for themselves as well as they do the dogs that come over here from there. They crowd the chickens in a small fence and expect them to stay. They dig, fly out etc. I had this problem once before but I did not have hens then. The preditors ate them all. It took them all winter though. I will call them once. Then they will have to disappear. I live out in the ctry. We are in a cove. No law would be able to protect me from this family if they turn on me. They are a law unto themselves. Infact the law sort of looks the other way for them. At this point they treat me with respect. I get the teens to help me once in a while so you can see the dellima. I will have too work it out quickly for sure. Gloria jean

Be careful on what you decide to do. You don't want the neighbor retaliating against you. Good luck resolving the issue.

I think to some degree chicken people should be embasitors to neighbors first. Go talk to them. Explain your concerns about disease. Give examples. "Your worried that exposure to birds outside of your flock will bring disease" . If this dosent work you may need to vacinate your birds. You could start fencing off your property. When you kill or remove their birds you are burning bridges. until you have to, try not to burn bridges. Better they are a little frustrated at you in their ignorance than seeking revenge. Six foot high deer fencing between your property and theirs should help keep their bantams out of your yard.

The police find you butchering a missing chicken. What do you say to the judge? Again, lots of chickens look alike or very similar and now that it's dead you won't be able to recognize it by it's personality. Prove it was the lost chicken. Fortunately, or unfortunately (depending on which side you're on) the burden of proof will be on the plantiff - kindof like trying to get your stolen stereo back without the serial number.

Besides. If your police are anything like ours, they won't even come out for a "stolen chicken" they'll just make a report over the phone, suggest that you lock your doors (they always say that) and tell you to file an insurance claim.

Ya could tell the neighbors your chickens have the Zookyrookus and are falling over dead by the numbers....maybe then they will keep theirs home.

Its hard to have neighbors that have no clue how to be neighborly.

I think the best way would be just a friendly visit and explain that your worried that their free ranging birds could carrry things to your birds that you dont want. Ask them to please help by keeping their birds home,,,,or,,,,,to have their birds tested regularly as well.

If they are not obliging...you have no choice but to get animal control involved or have sick birds.

Sorry you have such neighbors. I had a neighbor like that once. Honestly, the neighbors all referred to them as the "Munsters" and the running one liner was "There aint nuthin wrong with my neighbor that a good structure fire wouldnt fix."
