Now she is gone....

We learn the hardware from the mistakes. Just like those before us had terrible things happen we learn from it but still make our own mistakes along the way. Mine was getting complacent but now I'm on high alert again. I want cameras IN the run/coops, I want cement and fort knox.I feel even worse because it was partially my fault. I knew that the holes were too big. I KNEW that. But Grandpa built it for me and I didn't want to complain. The result was that a small hawk squeezed through a hole and killed my favorite chicken. If I would have just said something like "hey! I think a predator could squeeze through that hole." We could have covered it and Nugget may have still been here today.
That sort of thinking will not help you feel better. Think about the future. The hens lived good lives. Better then any production chicken. What breeds do you want? When do your chicks hatch?I also spent 2 weeks healing Ruby's prolapsed vent, got her 100% healed then let her sit on eggs to continue to healing.
