nesting box pics?

My DH is looking for ideas four our nesting boxes.Any suggestions?

Mine are mounted to the outside so I can collect eggs without going into the henhouse and gives me more space inside my small coop.....

My only problem with them was that the chickens would sleep on them and poop in them. So I would add a roof,if I was to start over(still might add one).

Here is a picture of our nesting boxes. They have a slanted cover, which is kind of hard to see as the inside of the coop is painted all white. There are four total for 12 hens. There is also access from the outside of the coop for gathering the eggs. They are the long, horizontal doors directly under the window in the front of the coop (see the second image). The doors to get in to the eggs are totally insulated, as we live in Wisconsin and don't want the eggs to freeze.

some awesome ideas here! So I am building a very narrow (front to back) coop, and ideas how I can put my nest boxes that they can get into them and not have all the chickens pooping in them?
My coop will take up an entire side of my run being approx 8 ft long, and 4-5ft high but as far as depth, it is going to be 2ft most likely...yeah I havent figured out quite how I'm doing things inside there yet but...that's the space we have and I'd rather have them more room to move about their run than in the coop. But I'd also like to be able to collect my eggs without going into run...

Before we found a ready-made coop, we were going to use plastic drawers from a 3 drawer caddie from Target that we had already. You can make them out of cardboard boxes on the ground.
