Nevadans?

I'll be looking for a few roos later in the year, but remember, after two years, unless I really really like them, they will be eaten. Im not on any kind of breeding circulation, and I switch out the roos every year or two to prevent random breed of father/daughter. And for variety in colors. Im keeping two this year, because theyre amazing flock protection, and Im sweet on them. Then I've got four Im eating. Three were chicks last year, and one is from two years ago. If anyone wants them before the deed is done, speak up. One is a barred rock, one is that guy who looks almost like a golden cuckoo maran, one is super pretty, greenish black with all the colors of the sunset laced into his hackle and wing bars, and the last one looks like a messy red/orange calico with a chocolate tail.

Ya I need to learn how to process mine. I have too many right now and even though I have 2 of them promised to Kirstie that still leaves me with too too many. I have 8 marans roos right now and I need to get it down to 2. Genny is gonna teach me how though. Kim was going to but it is such a long drive. This will be easier since I need to bring the boys with me.

I am going to have to study my Buff x Wheaten more closely. I've thought it was a roo from the start with the big legs but I'm just not sure. Can't tell on the comb and now I'll need to look at the tail. 3 of the lavenders I can't tell yet and one has a very obvious 3 rows of peas in the comb and is quite big compared to the other 3.

sunny you can have ANY of my many roos the 3 that are devloped enough to tell what they are boys baciscally right now they are all boys but one. Whant if a chick has gold feathers down center of its neck but a few feathers on the edge of its neck with some black is it a boy or girl?

Yes, post some photos, Seth. If it's gold down the center, it's probably a pullet but it would be good to see photos.

Funny, I don't think of potatoes being even certified but when you mentioned they put something on them to preserve them I recall a conversation I had with my son who works in the produce dept at a major grocery store. He told me that the apples were picked, then sprayed with that preservation stuff and then sit for a period of time before they can ship them! I had no idea it's months after picking before they even hit the grocery store! Yikes! Guess I'll go back to buying the starters from the nursery
This is why the food from your own garden tastes so much better - it really is fresh! If all you've ever eaten has come from a store then you don't really know what fresh food tastes like. I'd really like to grow some fruit trees but out here everyone tells me if you do you'll just be growing them for the birds. I guess I need to research that some more.

I've been growing a summer garden for the last 20 years and we usually go without tomatoes during the winter because of the difference in flavor. For the first time we've grown lettuce and OMG! The difference is unbelievable! Also, we waste so much lettuce because it goes bad before we can use it. With the fresh lettuce we just pick what we need each night for dinner. I'm going to plant some on my deck and that gets some shade and see if we can grow it through the summer. Has anyone grown lettuce year around? I think it was Missy that said she grows it in shadier spots for the summer?

The flavor in fresh veggie's is like the difference in fresh eggs!

Here's a pic of one of my collections from my garden last year when I was getting ready to can. I sell these baskets at my store, they're great for collecting veggies and I have a smaller one for collecting eggs.

Canning is best done with a nice bottle of wine!
