Nevadans?

I'm afraid to get started. I keep hearing how much time gets sucked up from these online games.

Mine too gaited horse! I finally got 2 of them (out of 20) to leave the coop but they went right under the coop where there's no snow.

Welcome vegaschick! Glad to know there are more Nevadans here than I first thought.

My poor birds are wondering when we are going to get back to normal temps! Yesterday I shovels paths for the geese, ducks and chickens in their run and also put down some hay. So my chickens are finally venturing out into the outdoors again. Only the geese will leave the run and then they stay on the tractor paths.

Was -17 this morning.

vegaschick, are your initials TF? This is a great place for info, etc. Mostly hatchaholics and chicken addicted people.

Hi everybody, sounds like you guys up north are having a cooooooold one. HorseFeatherz NV, I'm thinking bonfire time. I sold 31 roosters and processed 47 birds Friday and Saturday. I think that the feed bill should go down a bit

. For you guys that are talking about them, I should have some hatching eggs next year for several breeds if there is any interest. Right now anything would be a mixed bag because the only roos in with the girls are the Delaware, Rhode Island White, and New Hampshire Red. I can have pure Dellies, RIW, NHR, BR, BC Maran, Penedesenca, Welsummer, MF D'uccles, and Hamburg (Blue and silver-spangled). I can also offer some mixed dark eggers with 3 rooster options (Partridge Penedesenca, Wellsummer, and BCM) over various Maran (Blue splash, white, BC, blue copper, and cuckoo), Welsummer, and Penedesenca hens. I will probably put the EE hens in there also for some olive eggers and breed them back to my olive egger rooster that comes from different stock. What plans/projects do you all have?

Yep. That's me. I totally recognized the pics you posted. I'm pretty sure that I'll be interested in your Marans/Welsummer eggs/chicks when you're ready. Just keep me posted. BTW my moulting hens are growing back feathers like gangbusters. I got some gamebird grower pellets that I mixed with my laying mash to up the protein. Still no eggs but it's been less than a week so I'm trying to be patient.

I had one chicken step outside today peck the snow and run back in. Then My duck won't leave her half barrel hut.

Much warmer this morning

- 9. Broke down last night and strung 200 feet of extension cord and put a 150 watt bulb in the coop - but this am the coop was 10 degrees and my little Silverchick Rosecomb was huddled in the shavings. My poor RIR Bantam roos and Rosecomb roos were huddled around the light with larger hens leaning over from the perch to catch some heat. So.....drug out the oil filled heater, set up on nontip surface and coop is now warming to a nice and toasty 30 degrees.

Guess getting power to the coop is on my list now.

Had some dead wild birds in the chicken yard

that should cut down on the feed bill for sure but I know it can be hard on the heart (atleast until you see the reduced comsumption). Bonfire sounds wonderful right now - everyone is invited

What time should we be there HorseFeatherz? A bon fire sounds wonderful right now! I'll stop and get some hot cocoa. I'm just really boring company right now 'cause my voice is gone due to this cold I've got!
Gaited horse you're not alone! My gals won't venture out either!
Ke-ben, I'd love a few Welsummer chicks come the spring of 2011. Hopefully by then I'll have moved to a more spacious lot. Keep me updated on the progress of your welsummers.

The birds that we processed were CR meat birds so no heart problems there, except theirs if I didn't butcher them, but I kept 2 to grow a little larger (hoping for about 12 lbs) for deep frying like a turkey. Of the 31 rooster that I sold, there were 2 or 3 that I would have like to keep but I have way too many roos already, so I was glad to send the lot to a new home. For the bonfire, I have some extra wood and some dutch ovens for grub.

Stay warm and good night all.
