cool photos, candy. fun to see the older pullets/cockerels.
sunny, i tried the food processor last night and i'm not sure I really got them small enough and i can see that could be quite a lot of work to keep that up. i will try watering some food down into a mash tonight.
sorry to hear that, Missy. they are so squirmy! what a bummer. I haven't been letting my kids handle any chicks or chickens since the jaer died just in case there was any sickness involved and i think it's best to continue that policy for awhile. i haven't let them hold the chicks by themselves yet anyway just because it is so hard to not let them squirm out and jump. i hope your other chicks are doing ok and getting better. what a rough month, huh?
I'm sure I missed some other posts but I'll come back later. busy, busy times at work getting another grant proposal in.

I've seen some beautiful things done with tires and a little leftover paint. The kids would have so much fun slapping some extra paint on tires so you could plant them! My husband built me some planter boxes out of an old fence, and he let the neighbor kids come over and stick their hands in some nearly-expired house paint, then put their prints all over the planters. They're so cute!
Elizabeth, I don't know how fragile jaerhorns are, but about an hour ago I had an unfortunate accident with one of my silkies. I was holding a silkie and my cochin, showing my husband the difference in the two blue colors, when the silkie jumped off. It didn't drop more than 18 inches, but landed in just the right spot to kill it. I'm guessing it had to do with the vaulted skull. I feel horrible because it was such a senseless thing. This is the first "stupid" death we've had so far. After working so hard to save them from coryza, I lose one to falling on its head.
